"I think what that reveals is how worried they are that this might actually be something serious. You make fun of things you're afraid of, I'd say," Pappas said.

I don't think Anderson Cooper is afraid of this. He's openly ginger. Whereas Matt Drudge struggles with his gingerality.

The "tea party" goers in Cincinnati were a bunch of imbeciles. I think it's unfortunate that they are reproducing. My husband, a staunch republican I might add, commented to me that we're the only species where the weakest are allowed to breed.

Okay, so that was incredibly un PC, but we were surrounded by these folks when we walked through downtown to try to pick up lunch. Among the signs I read were "If it was good enough for Jesus, it's good enough for Uncle Sam" - WTF does that even mean? Or "If you want socialism, go to China."

Fact:
Noone is paying more taxes, with the exception of those making $250K+ ... and trust me, that's not who was primarily at this rally.
Fact:
Those making less than $250K+ are getting a TAX CUT!
Fact:
We're in an economic crisis! Doing nothing = disaster! Nobody wants to run up the deficit. It isn't "fun".

(These comments are directed to the tea party goers, not anyone on this forum specifically):
If you're a conversative, make a smart argument. Surely there are some worthwhile principles. Talk to me about how economics prove that a free market without government interaction is best. I'll agree with you, but point out that works in an ideal world, and clearly we have too much corruption to get away with that. At least make a logical, well-reasoned point, and you might have some credibility.

The tea parties in the 1700s were against "taxation without representation". You have representation, you voted, you lost. Sorry Charlie.

I'm continually amazed at how stupid people can be.

Good old Bill O'Reilly (who now sounds moderate compared to Hannity and Beck!) posed a question to one of his guests last night - "how many of those that voted for Obama wanted a 'nanny' state, or an 'entitlement state'? " The guest had an answer (30% or something) but the point is - the question is bogus to begin with!

Faux News are trying to paint the current environment as a socialist/entitlement state. My g/f just got laid off; she's going to get ~$400/week unemployment, capped at $11,000 - so about 6 months. after that, she's on her own. Now, that is not exactly going to entice her to sit at home and quit worrying about work for the rest of her life (it will prob. just about cover her cobra payments!). They are painting the bank bailouts as socialist, even though every economist agrees they are necessary ... God, Faux News is so full of sh*t!

They also claim to have more viewers than CNN and all the rest combined ... is that true?

Jon Stewart did a neat piece last night on the tea party. Fox is supporting the demonstrators, so it is now a Hippy station. He had a clip of reporter for CNN arguing with a demonstrator, so CNN is now "The Man". MSNBC was doing constant double entendres about teabagging so he decided that MSNBC is "Us", and he moaned that wasn't going back to waiting on tables.

Last night's Countdown piece on the teabaggers was pretty funny though. In order to have a national day of teabagging they need a dick armey. (Cue rim shot, high hat.)

Holy crap - those are scary statistics! At first, I was completely puzzled; how could the majority of Americans vote for Obama, yet the majority also watch Faux news ... I know I watch/listen now for amusement, but I can't imagine that many do. Finally I realized; Faux News is the ONLY right wing channel, so if you are a republican it's the only thing for you; whereas the democrats can choose from several others. The 'sum total' of all the others outweighs Fox. But not by much!

You'd think some enterprising media wonk would start up a more 'thoughtful' right wing channel, to steal some revenue from Fox. But wait - 'thoughtful' and right wing ... something of a contradiction in terms ....

Of course, Steerpike, it's worth remembering that in the twentieth century, far-right wingers killed 25 million people. Now, far-left wingers killed 100+ million people. Left wingers are far more dangerous than far right wingers.
