Default Taking Electrical Appliances back to the UK

Hi there
I am planning on moving home (UK) in about a year from New Zealand. Trying to decide what to take back and what to sell here. Can anyone tell me if I can bring electrical appliances back (tv, washing machine etc) and just change the plug?
Thanks

Hi, I have been back for 5 months, my husband is still back in Canada trying to sell our house. We are not planning on bringing any electric appliances, except our home computer and our laptops, personal hair care items, razors etc. We can purchase for much less money here than it would cost to bring these items over, actually we are only bring a few boxes. Our furniture would never fit into most of the homes here back in the UK anyway, especially the fridge and stove. We sold most of ours through newspaper, garage sale and internet, what is left will be donated to charity. Everyone is different, for myself was not attached to any of the furniture in any great measure.

Have a look at the label and if it says 110-240V 50 or 60 hz( as is the case with most of the computer stuff ) then you should be okay. They will work at either voltage but make sure that there is not a voltage switch that you have to flip on the power supply as is the case with most desktops computers.

If it is fairly cheap then I would just get rid of it and buy new in the UK. Stops any chance of you having problems once you get it back to the UK.

Large stuff like washing machines etc should stay in the country of origin (110v) as they will not be transferable from one voltage to the other. Be aware that you will need transformers for everything that is rated at 110v only.

As is normal with anything electrical, consult someone in the know and you should be okay.I would check with your local electrician and get his advice before plugging anything in.

Hope this helps!

probably better to sell them in nz as most things here are quite cheap Curry's selling 50in tv for £500, good make of washing machine £275 etc
or you can buy on e-bay we sold our fridge, before we came back and got a new one when we got home, but now we are going back we will buy in nz

yes they will I have brought mine back and they work fine! They fridge is too big for the small UK houses but cioffee machine and TV will work .
Our TV was 1yr old bought in NZ we bought a digi box which you will need or a sky box and plugged in off it went!
Also we have changed the plug on the WII and this works too so bring what you can moving costs are bad enough without having to buy all the electricals!

I mulled over the same question moving back fro the US to the UK. Eventually we chose to get rid of all electronic items except the laptop. We are taking a load of lamps but I will just rewire these.

Yes but the difference is NZ items are compatible I have replaced 30 odd plugs this weekend after receiving our things some applicanaces I took with me to NZ some I bought out there all work fine it does depend on weather you can afford to replace them over here against the cost of shipping to be honest as we had a full container it made no odds plus Kiwis would not know what to do with a DAB radio!
