I quite agree...the world is a big place and it's no shame to try another (or many) country for a couple of years to see how you like it. If you don't, you can move on or come back and then move again after a few years....
Its hard to keep moving as the kids get older.

And not out of price range either - I'm in the process of selling my place (2-bed semi with conservatory and garage) for under 130GBP.

Adn before you ask, I only moved away from the UK for a change in life - the world's a big place and to me it seems a shame to spend it all living in the one country! I may go back one day, I may not - who knows? But I certainly don't see any shame in going back as some people on these forums seem to think.
blimey thats cheap... cant get anything where i am for that

Today we started our first day as the new Postmasters in a SE Wales Post Office/Shop. After 2 months of dealing with bankers, solicitors, the Post Office, etc, we finally took over the business today.

Every single person who came in today had time for a smile and a 'good morning'. Many if not most stopped to have a chat and fill us in on the comings and goings of the village. The local Bakery is a good one and we hear the Chip Shop is a thumbs up as well.....The children are all back in school this week and anxious for a chocolate fix after classes have ended. The deliverymen were all on time, helpful and cheerful. The local shopkeepers came and introduced themselves and offered to help or give advice if we needed it.........and the weather was perfect.

That's all. Just a good day in the UK.
Good for you Scout, for posting some positive vibes, and for embarking on the Post Office venture. Is it in Bargoed? I don't recall reading any posts from you about this, but then I've been absent from the forum a lot since I got back. I still have that beer in mind - or maybe I'll just drive up and buy a Yorkie bar or something from your Post Office!

Good luck with it!

Actually it's in Aberbargoed. Just keep going thru Bargoed, hang a right onto Commercial Street in Aberbargoed and you're there.

I won't tell everyone we got a nail in our tire on our way home tonight.......it would spoil the good UK vibes

i live in a lovely little village in essex, with a lot of history and very olde worlde buildings. where everyone knows everyone and everyone always says"good morning" we have a primary school and a secondary school, a doctors, 2 grocery shops, and a post office. its lovely and quiet and all i can hear is the sound of birds twittering. its like a little piece of heaven. but as we are only 3 miles to a train station,we have lots of commuters moving into the village, which of course means new houses being built and prices rising dramatically. leaving those of us that have grown up here not being able to get onto the property market. i really feel for my kids, because unless they,ve got really amazing paid jobs they are never going to be able to afford to buy a home of their own. so maybe its not just whether you live in a city or rural that makes a difference when thinking of emigration, maybe its also the prices of the property abroad that we british find very attractive.

No different here in Perth, the dream of selling up our hse in the uk and having no mortgare here was part of our dream, thats now gone, and soon so will we, back to the UK and having a decent style of living, for us and kids. We are sick of trying to make ends meet and existing here instead OF LIVING.
Roll on our european hols and travel and decent living.glad we tried it but soooooo glad to go back. keep your BBqs and tinnys and beaches. back to family, friends pubs, the problems highlited in uk are here too but kept quiet,

Even though we're looking to get out of the UK we're still positive about the place. For us (wife and myself) it's about experience - we love living in London but we recognise the UK is not everything. The world is a huge place and we want to see more of it. Try a new culture.

There are bad things about the UK, but I think most major cities have the same problems these days. If you don't beleive that to be the case, you may well move cities with a blinkered view.

Your life in heartbeat village with greengrass and his shenanegans sound lovely but is it going to be great when or if the gossip turns against you.

Village like that, people know you have farted before you do.

Good things about you moving back to UK. Your kids can get fatter by recognising brands of chocolate.

History?? in a village in the middle of nowhere??

Cheapo shop? What , farm shops, or the farm delivery van,

Your representation of the uk is a tiny speck in a valley in leek land is so far off the mark its laughable.

Good luck with your business, and now you have a life that you dreamed of coming back to, why bother posting on moving back to uk forum, when you are here. Get out and love the life you wanted so much in this green and pleasant land.

Go roaming to the val leeeeeeeeeeyyyyyyys.
