Sometimes while driving early on a really hot morning in Australia I would look out the windows and see how misty the air was and I would crank up the aircon, close the windows and I could imagine I was in the winter in the UK.

Re: Smells
my old deodorant which I cant get anymore :(
But apparently it's not sold anymore so i guess I would miss that in UK too. |
Re: Smells
Not so much smells of home that I miss but today heralds a smell that I cannot stand in Aus. We have a multicultural festival in town with every culture under the sun cooking its stuff. The result can only be described as a stench! Like a very very bad overflowing toilet. I went into town last year on this multiculti day not realizing it was all on - never again! Worse than a ripe durian IMHO

My wonderful husband is treating me to minted lamb chops for dinner whilst I lie on the sofa waiting to be served. The smell of the chops is gorrrrgeous!! I'm going to start dribbling if he doesnt dish it up pretty smart!
It got me thinking about smells i miss from England. The first one I thought of was the lovely smell of wet cut grass. Lets face it you dont see much grass in many parts of Aus let alone wet stuff! Then I thought of tarmac when the road layers are putting a new surface down. For some reason the one and only time I have walked past it here, I didnt really smell of anything much and certainly not like the UK stuff. What smell do you miss? FISH AND CHIPS!!!!! THE REAL STUFF ANYWAY! AAAAHHHH bisto!! |

We just love our "winters" here in Perth more than the summers and when asked why our oldest son says because it reminds me of "home"...lovely dark nights....add the wind and rain and it's just bliss...........I enjoy the sun..like most people but to have it for months on end....as we do here in Perth.....it just wears a bit thin!!!!!!!!!!!!!! seasons of any kind, you just cannot beat it.

Just thought of another one...the smell of bonfires wafting over the garden. Lovely.
Oooh, and the smell of snow. Remember? When it snowed, everything went really quiet and still and when you went out in it it would smell clean and crisp. Or have I completely lost the plot now? I'm sick of being hot and sticky and my make-up sliding off my face and the bloody sweat rash stinging on my neck. I WANT COLD! Only 5 more sleeps and I'll be on that plane to some seriously cold air. Yipppeee! Good luck to us all going home - lifes too short - just do it!! |

You lucky thing - its another 7 weeks or so for us - and for me its seven weeks too long. I miss the primroses - yes they are still there if you look - bluebells, country churches (and I'm not religeous) village pubs, N.T properties, green fields with hedgerows, bridle paths, quiet rivers, birdsond, cricket games - and well...just the smell of England. Why did I ever leave?
