Default ship or sell????

just wondering what we have all done or planning to do with the household stuff

we shipped everything over and are wondering if we should send everything back again or just sell it all as we will most likely be staying with family for a while when we get back until we find something permanent. Also we used excess baggae and were charged by volume which was only 410 cubic feet and was wondering if there are companies over here who will charge this way so that we can atleast weigh up what the cost for each individual big items to see if its worth even taking back if we did decided to ship.

OHH! does this mean you have decided to def go back? When?

We shipped all our stuff over too, cost a fortune and hardly used any of it
To take it back will be another farce, so i am selling loads of it and keeping the newest and dearest.

At this point in time yes we are definitely going back, we had a chat about things last night and realised that lately the kids have been asking too many questions about what is happening. It aint fair on them and we need to do something positive for them and our own sanity.

we just dont feel that if we have got to force ourselves to stick it out and see what becomes of the months/years ahead it is all worth it to maybe realise it really was a mistake later on.

if that makes any sense

ps we dont have a date set yet but our rental is up on 25th jan so things will have to be done sooner rather than later

We are just going to ship it back as once you have paid the container then it is just the packing and materials you pay for. I got a rough quote for just sending boxes back and selling the furniture but it was going to cost more that way by the time we replaced things in UK.

We might have to disperse our stuff around friends as we are renting a flat until we buy again. Our removals wifie said it is as well taking than leaving when the container is yours. We also regret not having brought a few things over in the first place.

I think you are right as far as your children are concerned. We had a month or two of indecision and it really wasn't great for the children. No matter what we are trying to play it out as a great adventure...bloody hell!!!! Trying to put the positive spin on Daddy staying here for a few months!"! It is amazing the rubbish you tell them to stay positive!!

Anyway good luck in your plans and decisions

x

Lucky you had a rental then. I have to sell my house first and will probably make a loss. I thought property went up here not down Then the shippers to pay etc....now i know what financial suicide means. But i have my life and health so thats the main thing.
Well i hope your plans go to plan

Hi

Would be interested to find out how you go about organizing for a container which you pack yourself. I've had a look on the web but can't find anything which is of help.

Can anyone recommend any companies which do this sort of thing?

Allied Pickfords seems very expensive to me.

where do we start?

thanks

Hi Sunny, we have been here over 9 years and we have kept "giving it a go"...and we have but it is really not fair on the children....they do sense things and even though we are in a way lucky as our boys have always said they want to go home (we did promise them after two years if we still felt Aus was not becoming home we would leave) but we just kept on staying thinking the longer we are here the more like home it would become to us...it did not and is not home....so we are off home next year...the stress leading up to the decision was hard....but once made it feels good.....just now the stress of sorting things out but we have said we will try and relax over the Christmas hols etc and put our home up in Jan 08...and we will set a date from there...hopefully about March 08 we should be home....
I know this might sound daft but the other day I was sat in the back garden and looking at some of the flowers that from previous homes etc I have replanted...well most of them died and only a few have survived....I treated them all the same...feed,water position etc but some just died and then I realised that some things just cannot be replanted and uprooted...just like me!!! (was that deep or what)
I suppose what I am saying is some people can settle anywhere no matter what some just cannot and that's human nature....nothing wrong with it...it's just normal!!!!
Take care and good luck
Jackie in Perth......hopefully not for long.....

We have just packed some boxes up to ship but are selling (or giving away) all the furniture, is cheaper to buy new than ship our stuff over from NZ.

I'm doing the same from the US. I just packed up some boxes that I want to ship to mum's early, and the buggers weigh quite a bit, so I'm not looking forward to going to the Post Office with them.

Good luck to you Kate...we were initially wanting to live in Florida and ended up in NZ...still enjoyed our adventure.

You yoo! Yes, it's been an adventure for me in FL, too, but the last year or so has been very tough, so I'm looking forward to getting back to normalcy.

What a touching thought. I think you're absolutely right.
Congrats on sanding it for so long without wilting xx.
