Agree, there are too many imponderables (plane late leaving/arriving due to weather conditions or other problems, STRIKES in France (although they are now too regular to be unexpected), delays at Calais and on French roads (just look at the refugee situation and farmers regularly blocking roads at the present time). You can't count on anything going according to plan.
As suggested, come on the France forum to ask about Vets in Calais. All I can do is suggest looking in the "Pages Jaunes" under Vétérinaires/Calais, but the list wouldn't tell you whether it's possible to just turn up or whether you have to make an appointment. There are many France members who travel regularly to the UK by car with their pets, also members on the Spain forum who travel via Calais, who could advise.
