Selling off your stuff prior to moving back to UK

Put our main items on Gumtree yesterday - all but two things have now sold!
There was me putting it all on in fear it wouldn't sell quickly and we'd be left with it!

Looks like we'll be having xmas dinner sittin on picnic chairs and sun lounger!
Will have 7 weeks like this until we leave, Feb 2nd!

Just got the car to sell now so it's all worked well - for once!

gumtree? I'm probably the last one to know, as usual :o LOL

Congrats on selling your stuff so fast. I keep meaning to look at Craigslist and get the ball rolling otherwise it'll end up being a last minute panic again.

My son got a flat and a job from Gumtree when he was in UK so he thinks it is pretty useful as well!

I used Craigslist to get rid of quiet a few things before we left Toronto it's pretty easy to use:thumbup:

There's also a similar site called Kijiji

Grrrrrrrrrrrrr - just an update on selling your stuff off before you go back.......

Great that we've sold most of our stuff off ( aside from our car -anyone wanna buy my car?? ) BUT the HASSLE involved in selling it off here in Australia is massive!!

We've had people ask us to dismantle the stuff for them prior to them picking it up - only for them not to turn up, had folk agree to the price before they pick things up then try to barter it down when they arrive, then had people turning up, asking for us to dismantle the stuff coz it wont fit in their car ( why didn't you read the advert and the measurements, you numpty!!!! ) and THEN - ask US to take it to their house which is miles away in OUR car! I said ok, but it'd be an extra $20 and the guy looked as though I'd just asked him for $2000!!! WHAT A FRICKIN cheek these people have!!
He got the items for much less than half what we paid for them, we've gone out of our way to take them apart AND taken them to his house in OUR car, in OUR time - and still they have the nerve to complain!!

Talk about tightness.
God bless the Scottish coz I've never once met a tight Scotsman, infact they are overly generous IMO - but I'm disgusted by how tight people are here in Oz!!!!!!!!!!!

Very true Pearly. My ex husband is Scottish and he wasnot a tight man.

Are you using only Gumtree? I only use ebay here as i know what the Aussies are like. On all listings we make sure we say pick up only to be paid within 7 days of auction ending. So far no problems as they cant argue if you clearly state your "rules" from the start. We have made just over $1000 just selling off the junky bits and a buffet.

Hi Flea,

Tried ebay to start with and got no interest. So sold lotsa stuff on Gumtree as well as to friends and my landlord!!
Just got the car to sell now. That's on carsales.com.au and Gumtree.

Hubbies just called me after dropping the items off to that bloke. Turns out he lived on the top floor of an apartment block!!

WELL worth the $20 IMO!

I'm still reeling over yet another sh*t sale.

I have sold most of our furniture from the Quokka. I have my car and OH's van on Gumtree, but no interest yet. Also got the cars on carsales.com but no interest, so looks like i will have to take them to a garage and sell.

We move on 9th Jan so time is running out and we have dropped prices so low.
Nightmare

We sold our last item, our fridge, today to someone we know but luckily we can keep it until the last day here on 6th Jan.

Madly packing and hoping what we have left will all fit in to the container.

My 14 year old went out this morning and bought 8 Mr Men soft toys reduced at Coles as she thought they looked cute. Unfortunately we had to send her back with them for a refund as just no room for extra things. Still got Christmas things for the kids to fit in somewhere!

Hi Nushooz,

how's it going with the car selling etc?
We had someone call us up today to say they'd buy our car for $7000 on the spot........It's on for $9,500 ( reduced from $10,300 ). Hubbie told him where to go. But - I know we'll have to accept something lower than we''ve advertised - just not $7k!
Have sold off everything else really. Just living on basic cushions on floor stuff now and picnic chairs!
Shipping guys come on Jan 30th and we fly out 3 days later. Had a moment lastnight of "can't believe we're going - feels like we just got here!" EEK!
