Richmond
Quotation from today's daily Mail:
An affluent commuter town better known for its scenic views of the Thames has inspired the greatest number of copies across the world.
Richmond-upon-Thames, the south-west London borough where Sir Mick Jagger resides, has given its name to 55 towns on three continents.
It has beaten London into second place in a league table compiled by The Times Universal Atlas Of The World, which identifies the top ten most influential British place names.
Obviously there is no Springfield in England !!

A blue plaque has just been placed on the wall of a house in Richmond Hill Road, Richmond-upon-Thames, South West London, this being the family home of the actress Celia Johnson (1908-1982) on the occasion of the centenary of her birth. She is best kown for playing the part of a happily married woman having a clandestine affair with a married man after first meeting by chance in the refreshment room of a train station - Noel Coward's "Brief Encounter". I met a mate from uni purely by chance on the bridge across the Thames at Richmond-upon-Thames one Sunday afternoon in summer 2002. It is a really beautiful setting.

Re: Richmond
Richmond isn't all it's cracked up to be. I just remember waiting for a bus outside Richmond station one night with friends and then getting mouthful of abuse from the "locals". There's poor white trash in suburban Richmond I tell you...
