Thanks SO much for posting this link JAJ.

I was told by many people that I could only drive on my Australian licence for one year, then would have to sit the full written and driving test Well you can imagine how many bad habits we all have after driving for 20 odd years......

BUT today I checked out your link then phoned the DVLI (sp??) because I couldn't believe I was reading the site info properly, all I have to do is get a form from the post office and I can exchange my licence for a British one for £50!! Woohoo, quite made my day that did

Couldn't see anything about P plater's though, I don't believe they even have them here, though I could be wrong......

Thanks again JAJ, I see you helping a lot of people out on here.

I think the website states that you can exchange for 50 quid, but this only covers for five years.

I am in NZ and i know it will be different everywhere but for NZ my son swapped his for a UK one just a syou described and when he returned to live in NZ 6yrs later he just needed to show his airline ticket and passport to show he had been out of the country and his NZ licence was reissued there and then (so worth enquiring if this can be done in Aus)
