Default Question: National ID Number

I have a quick question about packet #3s Nonimmigrant Visa Application. Question 10 is National Identification Number. As I am a Canadian, does this mean my Social Insurance Number?

YES, that's what I put in mine.... that is what the Canadian gov't uses to identify Canadian citizens.

Hi:

It can't hurt. It pays to remember that the application forms are for ALL countries and many countries do have a "National Identification Number."

Here in the United States, it is somehat a matter of pride among some people that the US does NOT have a "national identification number." However, the Social Security Number has de facto become that number. Having a national identification card and number is actually somewhat controversial.

That item on that form has been discussed here many times with no
conclusive answer. My wife left it blank.
