Just read that. Really don't want to lose the "star" of the Royal family yet.

Please have a bit of respect, he did not ask to be born into a privileged lifestyle, I actually like the bloke who says what he thinks which is so refreshing from these people who lie through their false smiles.

I hope the old guy recovers. I'm not brgrudging him the treatment, but would Joe Bloggs get the same treatment as quickly as D of E did.

Why? I respect people who work hard and achieve something. Maybe Bill Gates or Steve Jobs in the US, or Richard Branson in UK. I don't hold anything specific 'against' the DoE (as you said, it's not his fault) but - he sure ain't going to get any special respect from me!

Yes they would. A blocked artery requiring angioplasty which is the procedure he had done, is usually done as urgent. (I work in cardiology)

I don't believe 'special' respect was asked for, just 'respect'.

I think he achieved something
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_...#Naval_service

After leaving Gordonstoun in 1939, Prince Philip joined the Royal Navy, graduating the next year from the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, as the top cadet in his course.[18] He was commissioned as a midshipman in January 1940. Philip spent four months on the battleship HMS Ramillies, protecting convoys of the Australian Expeditionary Force in the Indian Ocean, followed by shorter postings on HM Ships Kent, Shropshire and in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka). After the invasion of Greece by Italy in October 1940, he was transferred from the Indian Ocean to the battleship HMS Valiant in the Mediterranean Fleet.[19] Amongst other engagements, he was involved in the Battle of Crete, was mentioned in despatches for his service during the Battle of Cape Matapan where he controlled the battleship's searchlights.
Philip was also awarded the Greek War Cross of Valour.[18] Duties of lesser glory included stoking the boilers of the troop transport ship RMS Empress of Russia.[20]
Prince Philip was promoted to sub-lieutenant after a series of courses at Portsmouth in which he gained the top grade in four out of five sections.[21] In June 1942, he was appointed to the V and W class destroyer and flotilla leader, HMS Wallace, which was involved in convoy escort tasks on the east coast of Britain, as well as the allied invasion of Sicily.[22] Promotion to lieutenant followed on 16 July 1942. In October of the same year, at just 21 years of age, he became first lieutenant of HMS Wallace and one of the youngest first lieutenants in the Royal Navy. During the invasion of Sicily, in July 1943, as second in command of HMS Wallace, he saved his ship from a night bomber attack. He devised a plan to launch a raft with smoke floats that successfully distracted the bombers allowing the ship to slip away unnoticed.[22] In 1944, he moved on to the new destroyer, HMS Whelp, where he saw service with the British Pacific Fleet in the 27th Destroyer Flotilla.[23][24] He was present in Tokyo Bay when the instrument of Japanese surrender was signed.

Some responses here got me wondering if there was a little envy or jealousy at play here... And further wondering what the difference is?

Either way I hope any body with a heart condition feels well again soon, irrespective of their background and situation...

I find that very ignorant of your knowledge. ! You mention Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Branson but you seem to forget the Duke of Edinburgh Awards scheme which is a world wide scheme that encourages youngsters to become involved in all aspects of community life and its challenges. That is just one.
I have personally met and talked to him a number of times,he is very well informed as to who and what he is talking about with a wicked sense of humour which the Press love to 'make fun' of.
As Lansberry stated, his Military Service was not behind a desk, as with a number of 'Royals'.. Charles,Andrew,Harry and William are all happy to go into action if needs be. For that alone he earns a 'special' respect.
Stay safe in your armchair whilst others are prepared to get their hands dirty on your behalf.
I for one, wish him a speedy recovery and at 90 years good luck for future years.

I'm afraid when I met the Duke of Edinburgh (1965 maybe..) I was tongue-tied and said nothing. I did give him a smart salute though (I was wearing my CCF uniform.) I have always liked & admired him and wish him a speedy recovery and many more opportunities to put his foot in his mouth etc..

Met the DoE twice ,once at our cricket club centenary dinner. Very droll sense of humour when no cameras around. he is also super protective of the Queen. actually does a huge amount of work for the country they have both served loyally for so many years.
hope he gets better
