Personal Documents

Any recommendations on the best way to transport personal documents e.g tax returns, financial documents/statements etc. I could just have them packed and shipped, but I worry about how secure they would be.
I don't think it would be practical to take them as hand luggage, with the exception of birth certs etc. What has been your experience?

Thank you for your replies. I had considered scanning documents and have done so with some, but the amount of paper involved with tax returns is just overwhelming. I'll just have to risk it for a biscuit and trust them to the shippers.

I was the same but sold a lot on facebook groups and local friends, I am still taking home a 40ft container, which is outrageous.

Well done on the sale of your home, are you in Alberta as well? We are staying until the end of Aug to finalized things, sell cars and do a couple of things we wanted to do.

I shipped 2 teachests of papers related to my UK business to canada and back again with DHL (via excessbaggagedotcom) before it occurred to me that I could have scanned and saved it electronically.
I recently spent a whole month of evenings and a couple of weekends scanning it all..... Doh!
to the OP, DHL or Fed Ex would be my best suggestion

Thanks for your reply. My problem is lack of time, so the scanning option won't work for me at this stage. I must make a note to myself to start scanning documents when I receive them. I have a fair amount of stuff on my PC and I purchased an external HD, so that has taken care of that. I could always take a really big piece of carry on luggage and make the OH carry it. LOL
As I said a courier service probably wouldn't cost much and you can track your package, just don't use purolator! just direct it to a family member so they can sign for it in case it gets there before you
