Was it Charleygirl that moved into that place with the two blokes? I think I'm right and she was in Lancashire.

Quite a long way. It would take me about 2.5 hours to get to the area where Curleytops lives - and we're both in North Yorkshire. That's with no traffic - in summer, the drive could be more like 3.5 - 4 hours.

I suppose now is as good a time as any for an update...Unfortunately, I'm not in North Yorkshire anymore we now live in Cumbria (the ugly part). Neither of us is happy about it; we loved North Yorkshire and it remains well and truly home for us so I don't have the heart to change the profile. We see this as a temporary set-back and our plan is to return eventually one way or another.

I hope you can return soon to North Yorkshire also.

I looked up Cumbria because it sounded like a town. Not! A county!

Cheers

The Lake District is beautiful but along the west coast is another story and public transportation around here is positively grim. We're just a few miles away from the lakes and all that lovely Beatrix Potter stuff but without a car, it might as well be a thousand miles away. Unfortunately, this was where the work for OH happened to be so here we are. That being said, I don't for one minute regret returning to the UK. Thankfully, we KNOW where we want to be and we both want the same thing so we see our current situation as a means to an end.

33 years ago today I moved to Canada. It was -33 when I arrived and, based on the last two days of weather in Calgary, not a lot has changed as it has been experiencing blizzard conditions and very low temperatures. I don't miss that type of weather. In contrast, I love seeing all the greenery that is still around in the UK in December.

I am trying to redesign my wee garden and it amazes me that I can just pop out and take measurements, check out the plants etc in December. In Calgary I would be doing that on snowshoes. I have been reading lots of books on garden design, especially those geared towards small gardens and have found some good ideas. If anybody has any experiences in dealing with a small garden I would love to hear them.

I was wondering if you'd heard about that lovely weather Calgary's getting. My Dad is busy clearing about 18" off his drive as I type this and he can look forward to doing it all over again in a couple of days when said Calgary weather front works its way into NW Ontario. I don't miss that weather one little bit. Sis's dog is quite happy about the white stuff though and even took his "Grandpa" for a walk in it this morning.

I had rule that the dogs were not taken out for their daily visit to the off leash park once it hit -20. They had to live with a quick visit to the back garden. One year, over the Christmas break, it was bitterly cold so it was almost a week before they had good run. My Westie was OK, but my Wheaten Terrier was going stir crazy. He was a high energy kinda guy.

I thought of you and your husband when I first saw Last Tango in Halifax. Similar situation and all. Do you watch it?

Sorry it is grim where you are now. Hopefully something else will come along soon so you can move back to N. Yorkshire
