Hi Flea
So glad that things seem to be working out for you at long last.
In my very humble opinion I would get the spouse visa asap then you can rest easy. The reason I say this is that it has been known for some nurses to be dismissed for not being honest on their CV's and the NMC are keen on nurses being honest too! With your bad luck at the moment I wouldn't take any chances. All you need is to get on the wrong side of a jobs worth and the shit could hit the fan for you. With regard to nursing when in doubt be honest as honesty is a quality expected in our profession i.e. code of conduct etc. etc.
Now I will go and join the crossed fingers and toes brigade Good Luck

Question will be asked if they want to proceed to an offer.

There's no need to mention the visa until he's offered the job. Unless things have changed dratically in the past couple of years the Spouse Visa can be had very quickly if you need it. I didn't even fast track mine and it only took a week. Make sure you have everything ready to submit it ASAP though.

Re: OH has job interest from UK!!! What would you do?
Thanks for all your posts and advice.
Turns out it is a little more complicated than first thought. OH received a second email asking him to contact them by phone, which he did.
They cannot offer him a job until he actually gets there BUT, good news is, they are still very interested. He explained about his spouse visa application and the prospect of a job on his return would increase his chances of getting the visa accepted. The lady has kindly sent us an email stating their interest in him and the need for him to be there before they can offer him a job if he is considered acceptable.
Whilst we are a little deflated, we are very grateful for her help and are hoping this will go a long way in getting our application approved!!
We do feel a lot better knowing she is aware of the true situation. She thinks there will still be openings for him on our return as his CV is excellent and he has lots of relevant experience. They currently have 3 vacancies all of which he could fill even though it is not in his current speciality.
He currently works in forensic psychiatry inside a prison. He has the dubious "pleasure" of dealing with the very worst of humanity.
One of his current patients is the guy who severed the head of a baby here in Sydney a while back, so as you can imagine, its a highly specialised job
Whilst this recruiters vacancies are only in acute adult psychiatry, we are fully aware that a forensic unit is being built near the area where my daugther lives, but it is not completed yet. We very much hope, that if he can get his foot in the door at this hospital in my daughters village, he can later tranfer when the other place opens.
JAJ, do you think this womans email will go a long way to helping us get the visa even though our finances have been severely depleted due to financial crash and my illnesess preventing me working etc?

A friend of mine hurried the process through by just gping to the immigration office at the airport - they saw that the application was legit and just gave permission to stay and later on confirmed with indefinate leave to stay. try that!

Re: OH has job interest from UK!!! What would you do?
I think i'm dreaming! This cant be? I am too scared to believe this might be a goer.
OH put his CV on a nursing website a few months back. He has just received an email from them saying they are very interested in talking to him about a position they have.
You are NOT going to believe this, but it is in my daughters village!!
Now, here is the dilemma.
He did state on his CV that he is currently in Sydney, has current UK nursing registration with relevant pin number required, but, they do not know he does not have his spouse visa yet.
I have advised him not to say anything as it only takes a few weeks to process the visa. He isnt sure it is a good idea. What do you think?
I am also hoping that if he gets a job offer it will speed up the visa process.
He has stated he can start in 2mths time, by which time we hope he would have had his gallstone op and i am healed enough to fly back with him.
I'm sooooo hoping this pulls off, but trying not to pin too much hope on it just yet.

Hi Flea,
So glad to hear that things are looking up for you. About time really.
Just wanted to suggest phoning the British consulate in Canberra to confirm visa processing times if you haven't already. The tight-fisted buggers charge steeply for the calls so it's a pain, but it could be worth checking current times.
The reason I say that is because I had a spouse visa related nightmare earlier this year (March). Processing times were about two to three months at Canberra then.
It seems things have been tightened up since some people commenting on here last got their spouse visas. We ended up applying in Japan (took about a week).
Canberra may have speeded things up a bit since then.
All the best,
Chris

Hi Chris
Thanks for that. It is 4.30am and I was sitting here worrying about all this visa process. Cant sleep!
You are not wrong about Canberra. OH has phoned them twice at huge cost, for little or no help. Complete rip off if you ask me!! The people he spoke to seemed to have little idea what they were talking about or were very vague
They did sayprocessing times were a maximum of 12 weeks but most are complete well within that time frame.
He is lodging his application next week. Realistically, we cant go till after christmas anyway, as OH needs to have his gallladder op and i still have various medical things to clear up or at least improve before I fly.
I have only been out of hospital a couple of days and I am looking around the place wondering how the hell i am going to organise and co ordinate the selling off and clearing out of our entire home gawwwd... nightmare.
