North American landline telephones in the UK
Does anyone know if North American landline telephones will work (with an appropriate adapter?) in the UK?
I know the power adapter has to be changed. I also know that the 5.8 Ghz band is roughly the same although the standard differ slightly for cordless phones.
What i'm not sure of is if I actually plug a north american landline phone into the UK phone system and have it work... I seem to remember something about ring circuits etc causing complications... but am hoping there is some suitable little adapter.
it would be nice not to have to buy a new home phone system along with everything else!
thanks

No, it won't work. It'll "seem" to work, but have quirky issues. Such as - you may be able to dial out, but when someone calls you it won't ring. You may be able to get a little device to make it work, can't remmeber exactly what's it's called - toggle/doggle - but in my experience it isn't worth the hassle.
