Excuse me for interrupting. My wife has Scottish/German ancestry. The Scottish side isn't much help, but we have never considered German ancestry. Could her German ancestry be helpful in getting us back to the UK ?

Specifically what ancestry on both the UK and German sides? I take it you're not an EEA citizen.

Dead right Novocastrian! In another forum,I'm always reading posts from people who want to give up their US citizenship! Why anyone would want to return to live there is beyond me, and if they dont, then as you say, they'll be hounded for life by tne IRS

From his wife's previous posts under the same username, it's grandparents. His wife is a US citizen and they aren't allowed to have a UK Ancestry visa.

Why not just go the usual spousal route then? I know that it's more than a bit draconian, but it's open to you.

Also since you're a UK citizen you could consider the Surinder Singh route.

It's all in the wiki.

It seems like a long complicated road, but I have hope!
It is indeed quite long and complicated…and your family, where the British citizen is the stay-at-home parent, is the type that is penalized by the new laws. (Unfairly in my opinion). The British citizen must be the one earning to be able to bring in a spouse on a spouse visa.

BUT--I am confused about one thing--San Diego girl, you said only the spouse can be the sponsor, no third parties.

Yes, that's true for a spouse visa, of course.

But what if the OP's partner got a job in the UK in his own right, just as a single person would, and found a company to sponsor him? And the company arranged for the visa?

I know this is a difficult route, but does it still exist?

Then of course he would only be in UK because of the job, and if that job came to an end I don't know what would happen next…

Yes, I don't see how another party couldn't sponsor him?
I have friends & relatives in the UK, then yes if he could get work out there?
Also...are we better off getting married here in the states or in the UK? Either way we want to be married.

If husband enters the UK on spouse visa, then only the British spouse can sponsor him.

If husband enters on work visa then prospective employer must sponsor him for the work visa. Work visa must be issued before he enters the UK.

Yes, get married in the US - much easier.
