Multiple Sclerosis

Hi
I have searched the forum but not found much of an answer.
I have this week been diagnosed with MS after 2 attacks in a year and mri's and lumbar puncture I have been given an official diagnosis and starting on a medication which will hopefully slow the progression.
We are only here on a H1b/H4 and have started the greencard process which is virtually at a standstill right now. I looked at the medicals info and it doesnt mention MS - does anyone know if it will affect out greencard app.
We know that depending how this disease progresses going home maybe an option if we ever lost our good medical insurance but we dont want to unless forced..
anyone going through this out here let me know any info which could help.

Sorry to hear about your illness, I hope you can find the answers you need.
I don't know the answers to your questions, but from the list of medical tests that may be required, it looks like they are all either infectious diseases or serious mental health problems, and as your illness is neither then hopefully you'll be ok with your application.

I can't provide too many answers about how this could effect your green card application (my guess is that it wouldn't, but I'm not sure). However, I can offer you some info on some forums and organizations you can get help and support from. I've had MS since 2002 (first attack in '01), so I can understand what you are going through.

I have an Aunt of 45 who has it and her consultant when she was diagnosed at 31 said due to her age? and recent presentation it was unlikely she would be disabled by it or die of it? thats what I understood? she took me along as I am a nurse and her hubby a long distance lorry driver so couldn't attend and she wanted someone to listen in (for the record those of you who know I am 40 next year I am only 6 years younger than her, chav!)
she is currently holding down 2 jobs, 1 full time, 1 part time coping with her 15year old nightmare and 23 and 26 years old who have just descended home, she is a single mum, once divorced, once widowed, just starting a new business. so it not the end of the world.
I saw you had lumber punctures ect, but I remember she was supposed to (in order to get the definite diagnosis??? do decompression? and some sort of eyetest? that was a lot of years ago it may have changed? as you can tell I've not done neurology!

Yep, I've had 2 LPs, and if I never need to have one again it would be too soon. They took me down for several days with headaches so vicious I thought I was going to die. Even if my neuro said I absolutely needed to have one, I would have to give it serious thought before doing it.

I am about to start a drug that is supposed to slow down the disease progression called copaxone which is a self injection daily - not excited about it but gotta take what you can.

No idea, but I moved this to the visa section where your more likely to get an answer to the greencard question.

There was another ex-pat that posted for a while (way back) that was diagnosed while she was going through immigration. I think her name was Lesley1020???? or something like that.
If you do a search you may find something. I'll take a look.....

Good memory SM...I think this thread was the beginning of it. The OP can search through the rest of Leslie's threads.
