The problem is that generalising doesn't really work, as so much depends on where you're coming from and going to. My experience with regard to doctors/medical care, and the condition of the roads, has been exactly the opposite - far worse in the US than in the UK.

I agree with house buying though! We bought a house in the US last year and other than the ridiculously antiquated banking system (a cheque…..it's not 1983 people!), it was much smoother and easier. We're about to try and sell a UK property so I'm preparing myself for the pain of that.
