Im 39 years old was born in Scotland but never had my british passport..I became Canadian citizen 1982 and presently hold a canadian passport...I have my birth certificate (long and short form) from scotland but heres my question:
I am moving back to scotland in september because i married a girl from Kilmarnock last year do i have to buy a return ticket to avoid being interrogated at the airport and risk being sent back or do i buy a one way and hope they let me in? ive been asking around but nobody seems to give me a proper answer, i would greatly appreciate any help in this matter, time is running out!

You're a British citizen, so just apply for a British passport. Problem solved.

Go without one and make sure you have your birthlines. UK passport would be easiest but sounds like time is of the essence.
Just go and roll with the punches.
And let us know what happens.

If you was born in a country then you have the right to automatically become a citizen of said country. Ironically an old friend of mine was born in Canada and they told me they could get a Canadian Passport if they wanted. I think it works through blood too, meaning if your future children were to be born in Canada they would be able to automatically become UK citizens because you are Scottish, provided your referendum doesn't get passed that is!

I figured the UK passport will be better than the Canadian passport for when they start travelling the UK and Europe next year (that and the fact their mom holds their passports as ransom and has all kinds of conditions on giving them back to them)
