Moving back from NZ and looking for new alternative
I left the UK to go and live in the NZ. The climate is good; I live in a town of about 40,000 people and we have a beach, mountains, good local amenities including cinemas, theatre and a range of local festivals in the summer. It looks as if I might not get my residency (I have been working on a business visa). I am therefore facing moving back to Europe and wonder if anyone can suggest a good place to live in perhaps France/Greece. Not keen on Spain as it seems too commercialised. Somewhere suitable for someone on their own?
I would like a reasonable climate and to be within distance of some social amenties etc, especially yoga and painting classes. I don't want to live alone buried in the middle of nowhere! I like my own company but also like to have a social life. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
thanks

Well I would be moving back to the UK and looking for a holiday home..... I was already told not to move off the 'Blog'. There seem to be diverse discussions on lots of the forums. Cant you make it clearer where you want things to go?

ok thanks. Have now posted on Europe/France. I guess if I am considering other countries I can post it individually.

Re: Moving back from NZ and looking for new alternative
I used to live on a small Greek Island, and would definitely recommend Greece as a place to live (its where I would be if my hubby could get decently paid work there ) Might be worth looking at somewhere like the Peloponnese which is mainland Greece - quite easy access to Athens for big city "top-up time" - I believe there is quite a large artistic/holistic therapy community there, so may be somewhere that appeals. When we moved back to Uk from NZ we ended up living 3 streets from where we lived before we emigrated, so good on you for thinking of new adventures xx
Whereabouts in NZ are you? We were in Tauranga.
Best wishes

Thanks for your comments. I am living in Nelson, on the South Island. I still have a home in the UK (rented out) which is in the Hamble - coincidentally not so far from you and my daughter lives in Winchester. My brother lives in Lesbos in Molyvos, but that seems to small a place, although nice to visit. I guess if I can still pop back to the UK I can get the theatres etc. there, but most of all I want to be somewhere with a feeling of 'community'. Food for thought anyway, thanks.

Hey ! The minute I saw Hippy and NZ , I thought Nelson !
We are just outside of Nelson in Mapua. I cannot say we would stay here forever. I am a Bournemouth born and bred person
Good luck with your next move wherever it be & sorry to read your LTBV has not worked out.
