I do skype my family regularly and also keep in touch on facebook. I do have a lot on my plate at the moment and im sure in time things will sort them selves out. I have spoken to my OH about how i feel and he is being vey supportive. I am so glad that i posted on here as i was starting to feel very selfish for feeling this way. I will try and get some voluntary work to get me out the house everyday. As i said i have promised to give it a go and just see how i feel in 12 months.
Is that where you are from ? Things will get better ,I have been in the states 5 years a SAHM -all in the rural midwest ... it can be tough . Soon (I know you won't believe it ) you will start to make memories in the US ,that wil tide you over till you decide what your long term plans will be ! |
Re: Missing home!!!
Yeh thats my home town i havent lived there for 17 years i lived in the west midlands. I need to get motivated!!! I just potter around the house all day. A plan of action thats what i need!!
It was never going to be along term thing living out here anyway, we were buying property in france until my husband lost his job, that was our dream. But now we are here its all happened to quickly. Could somebody please tell me if a lot of chemicals are used in the food out here it was just something i heard the other day in the british shop near where i live it freaked me out  im really struggling with food out here as it is. |
Re: Missing home!!!
HI Weymouth . I've been out here 13 years and for the last couple working for myself from home - disaster !! Being isolated at home has been a nightmare and if I'd started out this way I'd never have stayed so like everyone else is saying get out there and do some voluntary work just to see some new faces.
I'm going to be going back to work for a company here quite soon and one of the reasons is I cant take the isolation. You can sign up for Netflix for $10 a month and they have all kinds of great British series and films on there. Good luck, hang in there and remember one day you'll be back in Blighty looking back on this as an exciting part of your life. |

We try to avoid the food colourings, HFCS and products with a mile long list of ingredients we can't pronounce. |
Re: Missing home!!!
It is exciting and one of the reasons i decided to give it a go was because i didnt want to have any regrets not only that my husband had applied for so many jobs in his field of work with no joy so thats why we are here. I know i have to make the most of it whilst we are out here. I really dread waking up in the morning because its the same old thing i say by to the kids then im on my own and dnt see a sole. Thats why the uk is looking more inviting everyday because i had a life back there and i dnt now. All my friends back home cant believe the opportunity ive been giving living out here but to me its not that great i need people around me.:(

Re: Missing home!!!
For 4 years I travelled an hour on the bus to a shop with out of date McVitie's biscuits, galaxy bars and tayto's crisps... It helped me to survive. The thing I really missed the most was being surrounded by British accents, British people and humour... And I could never understand the obsession with the beach that kiwis had... It's great for holidays, but it's not the be all and end all.
Oh well. |
Re: Missing home!!!
The beach doesnt really bother me as i spent all my childhood living on the coast. The move out here was forced upon us all. Im just trying to make the most of it here but its just so difficult. And now after hearing that the food contains lots of things that arent that good for us ive decided to go organic. I wake up everyday with stomach ache so its worth a try.

Re: Missing home!!!
I did a food shop today and bought mostly organic it was little more expensive but at least i know what im eating now. Ive been to the british store and bought lots of nice things that we are all used to which is great:) I must admit i did wake up today feeling very anxious because i am missing home so much.:(

Re: Missing home!!!
I think a lot of your anxiety is from homesickness. I don't know where in Florida you live, but there are quite a few British people around. If you could join one of the British forums on line, you might be able to find a meet up group that could help you out. Good luck with it.

Re: Missing home!!!
We live near clearwater. Its very beautiful here, lovely beaches, nice house but unfortunately its not really working for me yet. Im going to give it a go out here but i do believe that you know if your going to settle somewhere or not. There is to much about home that i miss. Ive spoken with my husband and i think we will return next year as hes not really settling either.
