One of the things I am doing is checking the Rightmove site and 'saving' properties so I can keep an eye on them to see how long they are on the market. That way I can look at the properties when we return and make an offer. You can look for properties for sale and also properties to rent.

In the UK all the immigrants have an easy time, jut go to a place (even at the airport) and someone is there to tell them what benefits to claim, where to look for the job etc etc. But some British people here would have even harder job as there is a maze of hurdles, complicated las and nowhere to turn.

I met a lady here who left UK with her children to try and live cheaper in Europe due to a divorce and not having much money, now she finds it impossible to work and look after her kids and wants to go back. But the obstacles are terrible. Most people are returning back with some money, from sale of the property or savings here, but there are some who have absolutelly nothing through either personal circumstances or being cheated. And believe me, in Spain, it is easy to be cheated as most utilities and tel are taken directly from the account. I already had a double on my line who left Spain and left me to contest the bill.

I just wondered, perhaps some of the good people who returned to the UK can set something up, or post something to help others.

Who knows, I may need help one day. .
There is indeed such a thing.........we're called relocation agents! We do everything (frequently for expats returning home or foreign workers coming here for a job as well as people within the UK) from advice on where to live, finding a house to rent/buy, organising shipping, packing/unpacking, sorting schooling, sorting out commute to new jobs (i.e. buying season tickets for public transport etc), orientation of new area, planning applications for work to be done on new house, and even getting phones/utilities set up etc!!

Thank you.
There are hundreds of relocation agents in the UK, all covering different areas. Our website is http://www.collingwoodsltd.com (not sure if I'm allowed to post that but seeing as you asked!!), and we cover the counties of Bucks/Berks/Oxon/Herts. Obviously if anybody wants advice or any questions answered then I'm happy to help if I can, even if it's about an area of the UK that I don't cover. Just PM me.

To find a relocation agent for a different area, the best place to look would be the Association of Relocation Professionals website (http://www.arp-relocation.com) which is the offical body for relocation agents in the UK and has details of all members. Do choose a company that is a 'Full Member' rather than an 'Associate Member' - a company that is a Full Member has to have been trading for more than two years and provide several client references so they should know what they are doing and have more experience, whereas anybody can apply to be an Associate Member - they may only have been in the business for a week!!

Hope that helps a bit.

This is all good stuff, but what about those in such dire straits they cannot afford the services of relocation agents?

Cant remember the posters name but someone posted from Serbia with probs leaving a Serbian husband. What with all these global internet romances and stuff these days, I am pretty damn sure theres plenty of gullible people out there who have been duped, or even women dumped abroad with kids in tow and no money etc.

A relocation agent should only charge one months rent to find a house (assuming anybody coming back to the UK would want to rent first of course), which is not a huge amount of money when relocating countries, but if people really couldn't afford it then I agree that there is very little option other than to rely on family and friends to help out as much as poss.

I think the info's out there, I just think that the British generally are not good at asking for help, especially in their 'home' country, perhaps at a time when they are most vulnerable too. I've heard good things about the CAB, government websites are clear and most correspondence can be initiated online. Plus forum's like this are a godsend for like-minded people scattered around the world, who better to ask, than those who've been there, done that and gone back again.

Very true. I think this is a great place to get help and support (apart from some of the barbie morons hell bent on trouble making for entertainment)

Maybe correlating a lot of the separate info into one package on here might be of use. I know theres already quite a bit here. Shame there isnt some kind of social network to help people integrate back into UK.
Not everyone has family support or old friends still around to help out.

I´d say cheers to that. I`ve been in Germany for 26 years and plan to return as a permanent resident within the next 1 1/2 to 2 years......I`m a nurse, only did my training as an RGN in Scotland and then moved. Never worked in a ward, but in anaesthetics and endoscopy here....never specialised! It`s a nightmare trying to get information about getting a job to return to, the RCN want to know my grade!!, how do I know?, said I was never registered with them!!!!!!, never mind information on tax, pension, inland revenue, insurance, etc.......many web sites are totally out of date as are many email addresses......frustrating!!! Like probably many of you, I want to come back, but am wary and need info, need some kind of back up. Contacted many sites to no avail, now trying the more antiquated way by sending letters.......also to my "old" citizens advice bureau, but I`m not a local, so will see if they reply. Yes,I agree, there certainly is a need for information for expats returning, and if I recieve information will gladly further that on. There`s loads of info for folk leaving, foreigners coming to work, but for expats returning.......**** all!
