Default Jobs Upon Return

Just wondering what you guys all did about jobs when returning to the UK?

I at the minute am due to return to Northern Ireland in a couple of months and have started to look at job vacancies and I think I might start applying for positions a month before I return, might get onto the recruitment agencies now too.

My main plan of attack though is to approach a place I worked at temporarily as one of their staff members left a month or two ago and they still haven't filled the position and I know the job and company pretty well and could get into it with only a few days training. I've known the boss for years and my Dad works in the company, problem is he can be a little stubborn. I'm wondering if I should email him in the next few weeks telling him I'm due home and want to work there again? I just haven't a clue how to word it or what to say and I don't wanna come off looking silly. Also thought about just approaching him when I return but I'm worried that will be leaving it a little too late.

How did all you guys go about getting a new job? And do you have any useful tips for me?

I'd probably ring the guy!Discuss your plans and well if you don't try you'll never know! You might get lucky!I returned 10 years ago.I had a week off, spent two days looking for work, got a job and been in work ever since. That was 10 years ago though!Best of luck and hope all goes well for you!(I don't think it would hurt either to start looking now,if you have definate dates of returning then that can only be good!)

I started actively job searching a couple of months prior to leaving Oz via online sites .. www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk .. www.cv-library.co.uk .. www.monster.co.uk are the main ones I hit. I also went on local government and council websites as well as the NHS site and SKY and checked out their vacancies. I secured three interviews this way, though I have to say that I also received a number of responses telling me to contact them again once I had returned. I had the added complication that it took me a while to work out where it was in the UK I wanted to go and settle, and even though I know that's Devon I'm currently in Staffordshire, and applying for jobs locally and nationally, though I will get there sooner or later.

I agree with the advice to make a call to the guy and tell him your plans to return, that you'll be after a good job and immediately thought of him (stroke his ego a bit maybe)..

Good luck
