Please tell me how!
I have been assessing our situation all morning. I just want to get out of here. I miss my family so much.
We have no liquid assets at all apart from about $15,000 which would only just get our stuff, the dog and us back to UK. Because OH is a NZer he needs a spouse visa and this means we have to show enough money to live on for 12mths before they will let him into the country to work.
I know i have talked about this before on here many months ago, but it has all reared its ugly head again. My attempt to go back last year failed as i was let down big time on a job i had secured and the whole saga wasted a lot of money we could have used to help our cause.
The whole situation is crazy as OH can readily secure a good job if only they would give him a visa. He had 4 opportunities the last time he investigated his prospects but all of them wanted him NOW! not in a couple of months time. I couldnt find another perm full time job when i was there which ultimately meant i had to return to Aus.
It is all a big mess and driving me nuts. If i was intending to stay here the job i have got in Sydney would be good long term, but i am just not committed to it, the aussie male syndrome is driving me stark raving bonkers and i am now suffering from emotional burnout and a lack of sleep through worry.
What we need is OH to secure a job with live in accomodation HA!
what chance of that! I'm dreaming.
Maybe i shall just buy extra lotto tickets tonight.... seems to be our only way out of this mess quickly
Thanks for letting me offload.

So your biggest hurdle is money? Without money to show he can live for a year, he can't get a visa, therefore can't work. Chicken and the egg situation really isn't it.
You say he will secure a job no probs when he gets back. If that's the case, why can't you obtain a bank loan here for enough to satisfy the visa requirements, go back to the UK, then he gets a job and you get a job, you get another bank loan to pay off the Aussie one.....sorted.
Or, you save your arses off over the next 12 months in Oz, put moving back on hold (I know, that's a real p*sser) until you've got enough to satisfy visa man again.
Or, you can get a balaclava, a toy gun and find a bank!!!
O.k, o.k, bit drastic I know. You must feel so frustrated by it all.
Really feel for you Flea, you must be missing your kids and grandchild something rotten, but take solace in the knowledge that you will be back there again, one way or the other.

I had already thought about the loan option way back last year but was told it is illegal to take out a loan and leave the country. The problem would be that we could not repay it immediately from the UK as we would still be setting up the new life back there. Although we have a great credit rating here, we do not own a property in Aus so getting a loan large enough to cover what we need would be difficult i think anyway.
One thing that made me really angry last year was OH's brother who lives in Portsmouth wrote us a letter to give to UK visa people offering us accomodation rent free and a promise to keep us until OH found work, but apparently he is legally not allowed to make this offer... bloody daft if you ask me!!!
I was also told that if you provide a bank statement showing liquid assets to cover your living expenses for 12mths and the amount is in one lump sum they want to know how it got into your bank account, so i guess it would not look good if they saw it was a loan
I think the bank job idea is promising... or the one we are following right now which is save save save for a year... i just want to go NOW!!!!
my grandaughter will be having some nasty operations on her feet soon and i feel so bad not being there. Her feet deformities are worse than first thought and her toes need to be broken and reset
Thanx sambapink... yes, even though my OH an di met in UK, got married in UK and lived as man and wife for 2yrs before leaving, he still isnt allowed back in without a visa.

Flea - I totally understand that feeling of just wanting to get out asap. I feel like a yoyo. One day I am okay and everything is fine, and the next I just want to pack up and go home. But, I need to wait until at least the summer for things to start falling into place, and that means jobwise and money. If I left right now the money end of things would be crap, so I am saving like crazy to hopefully break even when I move back home. If I'm lucky, that is
Although, I don't have the added worry of having an OH that needs a visa. But, I definitely can see how frustrating that would be , though, seeing that is a definite barrier/complication right now. It is hard when you want to just leave now, but I definitely second the idea that save, save, save, until you are in a better situation regarding your move is the way to go. Good luck hen, in whatever you decide to do. Emotionally yoyoing is no fun

May not be the best paying job in the world but if you get the right area it could work out OK for a few years until you find your feet.

No it certainly isnt fun. I can go for weeks being ok and just getting on with life, then suddenly it hits me. Usually after a webcam link to my daughters or they send me new pics. Also i feel worse when under pressure at work. Wondering why the hell i am doing this!

OMG I didnt realize that they wouldnt just let foreign husbands in on a spouse visa without evidence of money - what the hell are you supposed to do? It isnt like you are one of those people who leave on holiday and come back with an arranged marriage, you have been married to him for some time! That really is bad news. My only suggestion - never been known to succeed mind you - Tatts!

Have you thought about running a pub?

Good idea, but once we actually get into blighty a job wont be a problem as OH works in forensic psychiatry. He even has UK registration all sorted for his job so no issue there either, just getting the bloody visa granted!!

I don't understand this bit - in the area I was living in the north of England there are any amount of 'foreigners' (don't want to sound racist here) who brought new wives or husbands over from their mother country and they were signing on the dole
You two should be welcome with open arms - it just doesn't make any sense
