I'm a new member who has been lurkng in the background I just want to add my voice to all of us who are making the decision to head on home. I'm in my late 50's and OH in his 60's. We are 'ping pongers' who now believe it's the final pong for us (ie. back to England). We've been out 8 years this time around - and now I just know it's time for the final journey back. Somerset is calling and the clock is ticking. I think Australia is a great place - in certain parts - but it ain't home and never has been and never will be - and now its time to go - to "The greenlands, the westwind, full of birds crys, and I never hear the westwind, but tears are in eyes-----Whoops getting sentimental now - maybe it was that last glass on wine! TTFN.

So how many times have you ping-ponged before and for how long each time? What has made you decide to make the big move again if you don't mind me asking?

I'd never particularly wanted to come to Oz but met OH when he was based in London and came out here for the first time in 1983 to Sydney and stayed 2 years. (OH is also a pom but came over in 1964) Then back to UK for about 3 years, then came back again but this time to Perth. (I can understand why so many leave Perth, its in the middle of nowhere!) After about 4 years of sand and heat, we headed on back to the UK and stayed until 2000. We had bought a lovely rural home there - until the farmer next door got permission to build a commercial pigsty in the field next to us! What with that and the miserable summer we had just had, we thought to hell with it and moved back to Oz again. This time to Tasmania - a lovely place but a bit too quiet. Sold up from there and moved to the Mornington Penisula, but only renting this time around. Reason for going back? Well apart from wanting to see my Dad who is 84 and lives alone and also wanting to see my sister who has recently been diagnosed a very nasty cancer, I just miss the english country side so much and that feeling of belonging and being able to talk to people with the same sense of humour. It will have to be the last time because we can't afford to keep pinging & ponging. We had 6 weeks holiday there in June 07 so we know what we are going back to (I think) and now with a favourable exchange rate, well it's an added incentive. This has been my longest stay - 8 years - and it's enough. No more!

So, when do you plan to return to the UK and are you heading back to London?
I'm also on the Peninsula!!! It's a beautiful place to live isn't it, but it still doesn't fill the void that family/friends in the UK have left. We've also had a few moves in the past 7 years, but just around Victoria. This is definitely the nicest place we've ever lived - OH & myself say if we can't be happy here, then it's time to make the move back.
