yes, pretty fed up. I too enjoy some of the things that i missed when in Oz, but i'm starting to think we did the wrong thing..... we have been literally stuck inside, the kids liked the snow the first day, but after about half hour were upset that it was sooo cold! But then, i hated the heat in Oz this time of year.....horses/courses
However if you still feel like that we could switch. 35 predicted next week, revolting. |

Forgot to mention the aircon issue in Aus.
It is only the newer properties that seem to have aircon in Aus, but even then, as Nu Shooz said, it is noisy AND extremely expensive there. In fact it is more expensive than the heating costs in UK if the heat drags on, which it invariably does for weeks on end. Do Oz houses not have basements? Our ac unit was always in the basement, running off the same furnace that did the heating, and coming up through the air vents. Window air conditioners are the pits. Bev |
Re: Isn't anyone else fed up with this weather?
We have a couple of wall mounted units, one never used and the other rarely - get good breezes through windows and doors and the ceiling fans do a brilliant job. When we do have the one air con unit on we certainly can't hear it and it's not a new unit so I'm confused as to why they appear very noisy to others but they obviously have noisy ones.
It's all relative and personal anyway. I can't possibly say Aus is too hot because it's not for me where we are but I understand that some places get higher temps for longer periods of time and they possibly can't handle that heat. I can't cope with UK damp cold, made me ill every year. Humidly is fine where we are but others think it's too much. Horses for courses really. |

Does seem a puzzle to me. Yes, ac will be expensive. It costs as much to cool as to heat -- and to dehumidify, which is a huge part of what ac does. But why so noisy?

Bev We use ours a lot in summer, (may through October) It is noisy and is an outside roof mount, right over my freakin bedroom, who though that was a good place to put it!! It cost us a lot more to cool than to heat, but we have the added heat of a woodburning stove, but getting up in the morning I flip on the heater as I want to shower without freezing to death. And if we are out during the day no one adds logs. So heater it is. |

Dont where you are living on the Gold Coast, to say Aus is not too hot, what do you call 35 degrees, and to say you get good breezes you must be living where I am not, Dont mean to disagree with you, but people out there need to know OZ is just hot, and dont invest in an old airconditioner as they are noisy

Re: Isn't anyone else fed up with this weather?
Why the agree/disagree thing, this is a forum where we all have our points of view, I am just letting everyone out there know that the Gold Coast has very hot summers.
Give me the freshness of the UK any day, cant wait to go back there |

Stuck inside trying to cool off or in a pool of water, ironic. |

:( On a separate point it goes without saying that Australia, as a whole, in summer is hot. However if the bit I live in doesn't get hot enough for me to moan about then in my view it's not hot. That's not to say others won't find it unbearable and can't stand it, just that I personally can't call it hot. Apparently that's hard to understand for some. |

Means we all feel things or do things differently. Some people think the GC is Very hot and some don't. Some love the cold damp weather in the UK in winter and some don't. It doesn't matter and no one is right and no one is wrong, horses for courses :D Some are fed up with the UK winter now and others are fed up with the Aus summer - individuality rules!
