Hi im 28 born in England the only info i have of where is on my birth certificate which says County of Cleveland Middlesbrough. I moved to Aus when i was two with my parents i now live 1500km's away from them and have had little contact with them since i was 15 and none in the last 5 years. I am married to an Australian and have 3 children (4th on the way)
We don't like the area we live in and was planning to move interstate. I threw the idea in to move to England and after a looooong discussion decided it was the thing to do for us. My wife and children don't get along with her family either so moving away from relatives is not a problem at all. (personal reasons we are not bad or mean people)
So our plan is to save up enough to live for six months (rent, food, utilities) and a little extra to replace furniture whitegoods television and car after we sell all we have here.
if anyone has any info on what we are forgetting or any advice it would be appreciated thanks
(we are looking at a 3-5 year time frame till we move)
My wife is Australian but her father was born in England. Does this mean she is able to apply for a British Passport also?

Are you an Australian citizen too? If not, it is probably time to become a citizen, it means you'll be able to come back more easily if England doesn't work out.
That said, you should have a good understanding of why you want to move to England rather than somewhere else (eg interstate, New Zealand, another country). It's the right move for many, but can be expensive if things go wrong.

The UK has plenty going for it but also consider why many many Brits move to Australia & New Zealand! I guess you have reasons and considerations on why you fancy the change to coming here, but I would certainly come for a visit first. Take as long as you can (2 weeks minimum) and check out a few places around the country too. Maybe start with the Cleveland area that you have a connection with and also check out the Leeds, York and Harrogate triangle (yeah I'm biased
) whilst in that area.
One word of warning though and that is that the UK is getting hit hard with the global downturn. The IMF said we're going to be hit the hardest of all industrialised countries so be sure your occupation is going to have a demand. Also get used to rain. Not the warm heavy shower you're used to but days and weeks of continuous drizzle and rain and overcast skies. That might sound nice to you as you're in the middle of a heat wave down there but the last two years have been terrible for rain over here. You could almost count of two hands the number of sunny days we had in summer! Now I would also defend our weather and say there is nothing better than a warm summers evening in the UK either - when we get them
So good luck with your venture and if nothing else you're sure of a warm welcome when you visit the UK
Enjoy
