Default Improving credit ratings

We've been back 11 months, and would like to try for a mortgage in the next year. But having checked our credit score, we have some work to do beforehand. Other than store cards and credit cards, are there any tips on the most efficient way to quickly improve things?

I presume you are on the electoral roll? otherwise you seem to be doing the right things, not too sure how the ratings system works, I was lucky and still had something from before I moved.

You have a credit card? Take out a loan, it doesnt have to be big but you have to show that a) you can get a loan and b) pay monthly payments.

As Spacecake implied, making monthly payments is the big thing. Mobile phones on contract are credit agreements as you're paying off the cost of the handset. If you're on Pay-as-you-go, consider switching to a contract each. If it's going to be a joint mortgage, both credit ratings need to be in good shape.
