Default Immune system better or worse...?

How is your health since moving to America?

I was sick fairly constantly in the first 15 years despite being a healthy youngster in the UK.

The one thing I seem to pick up regulary, like every other year is the completely horrid stomach flu. As a child I had it maybe twice...

So anyway I feel my health went from excellent and hardy to a sickly thing who has picked up almost every thing going.

I did start juicing a couple of years ago which has made a huge difference in my my well being but I cant help but remember those first years of illness...strange.

Anyone else experience an immune system dip?

Anyone else feeling like a sickly weakling?

Shit....especially within the last 3 Years. I now have allergies to things that never bothered me when I was in the UK.

Also having a "Sleep-Apne" test next week. Another unheard-of problem in the UK.

I get sicker here, but I never had a child in the UK, that's what I put it down to.

Maybe we're just getting older but I was young when I got here and I just feel like my system is getting stronger and more defensive after twenty years of getting sick all the time.

I never was, and never have been noticeably sickly. But since being in USA I am much more aware of what "could" be ailing me, and which drugs I "should" be buying to alleviate my potential symptoms.

Never really been sick in my life, so not seen a change since I came here. My bones are getting older though

Kids are pretty resilient too - 5th grader was boasting at the end of April that he had only had one day off sick, and one day off injured since starting Kindergarten. Silly sod should have kept his mouth shut cos he got pneumonia the next week and ruined that record The other 2 (7 and 9)are pretty much the same. Think we've had one or 2 cases of strep, and one ear infection, and thats about it.

I am amazed at the number of allergies and treated conditions though...I coordinate health forms for our cub pack, and more than 2/3 of the boys are on some sort of permanent/semi permanent medication.

Reminds me of a commercial that was on so often I sat there and timed it one day. Ten seconds of positive effects from this miracle drug, followed by 35 seconds of dire warnings of death and dismemberment, with a final 5 second recap of the positives.

Much worse over here.

The odd bit of hay fever with cut grass back in blighty, but here, it's a lot worse. Also allergic to the winter, brings out hives, but I've never had that issue before, spending winter in Montreal, various places in Austria, Germany and Italy in winter etc.

Allergies. Mine get worse every year, I never had any in UK. The rest of my medical stuff is probably aging more than not being as healthy here.

Hayfever-type allergies much worse for sure, but then I live in the midwest, land of mold and ragweed. I did better in my parents' cottage in Wiltshire, which was in the middle of a field.

Makes sense though. You develop immunities to the things you are exposed to as a baby and child - not the things that come along later. This is a completely unqualfied medical opinion, btw.

This is a really interesting thread. Is it just because of ageing?? It can't be any other reason, can it?

In the case of hay fever type stuff, geography. Different vegetation.

When we first moved I couldn't drink the water without getting ill - went to the doctor who told me in great detail about the absolutely ancient pipes that supplied water to us and couldn't face drinking the water after that

My hayfever is worse, although I keep thinking it might be something else too Also I was bitten to death at the beach a few weeks ago and reacted to the bites badly, complete with hives!

Other than that we have all been fine we were never ill people back in the UK either .....you know what's going to happen now

I have noticed that all the friends and neighbours I have here are ALWAYS ill and at the doctors...they seem rather obsessed with allergies and asthma! They were gobsmacked when they found out that non of us have asthma

My FIL's health improved moving to Florida from the UK...apparently!

I'm entirely an old codger, even if I do seem like one most of the time :/
