I Think It Is Time To Come Home....
Hi All,
I found this forum by accident roaming around the net looking on information on returning back to the UK, I have been in the USA 18 years (Am over 50) , I live in paradise - right across from the beach and a great job too...but my heart is no longer here...I think it is time to come home - it is something I have been thinking about for the past 3 years - I know things have changed radically since I left _ I did a lot of soul searching by removing the rose colored glasses - Pro’s and cons and although I am scared? I think it is the best thing for me.
I lost my husband 15 years ago and didn’t remarry ( current relationship 6 years ) my U.K. born daughter is grown and married and lives 200 miles away due to work and I feel homesick.
My family in the U.K. are happy to put me up while I get settled, I have opened a U.K. account and have started squirreling a few quid away every month, I am not a rich person and I know this is not going to be cheap!
Currently I have no questions- but I am sure to have plenty as my plan moved forward - want to pop in and say hello and pleased to meet you!

Re: I Think It Is Time To Come Home....
There are many shipping services from USA to U.K., try searching the message boards for people who have already done it as I am not at that stage yet.
if I were you after the sale of your house wire to your U.K. account, I would call them first and ask if there is any specific procedures due to the large amount being transferred- each bank is different, last thing you need is a freeze

Hi LLamados and welcome :-) Sorry to hear of your husband.
You're not alone in thinking of moving back (or onwards as they say, no moving 'back'!). As and when you have questions feel free to ask away. You'll no doubt receive a myriad of answers, some opposing, some in agreeance - but informative (and entertaining!) in the very least.
Once restrictions are lifted, are you in a position to perhaps spend a bit of time in the UK? Reacquaint yourself with areas known, and explore pastures new. Although it doesn't give a true idea of what it's like to live there again, it may give you a firmer idea either way. Many people write here of hoping to have closer/more involved relationships with family and friends and sadly after the fanfare dies down this doesn't materialise. Of course, sometimes it does! Have a big think about what you are really looking for in this move. Is it realistic?
It's a hard (and yet somehow sometimes surprisingly easy) decision to make and wish you all the best for your move. I always like to think the best years are yet to come and hope the same for you too.
