Things that i miss, join in if you like (got some time to kill)!
Having a nice hot bath in my old Deep claw foot bath
Carpets
Being able to blast the heating on cold mornings
Putting my washing on the radiators
Being cosy inside the house when it is wet outside
Having takeaway DELIVERED to our house until 12aM!
Tesco
My old house
Owning my own furniture (we are in fully furn)
WALKING to places
choice of decent crisps
Seeing the childrens' grandpaernts feeding the children sweets and all things that you wish they wouldn't - but that's what grandparents do!
Having the ability to visit family and friends
Being able to call anyone at anytime during the day
Being surrounded by old buildings
English Roast dinner (no its not the same here, haven't seen a yorkshire in nearly a year!)
Late opening of restaurants
Being able to get services without wandering if you are being ripped-off
Having the chance to use my skills to my best ability and therefore being able to better myself
The light evenings
Beautiful countryside
TV
Real friends that know you and you can rely on
The Shops!
The fashions
English breakfast - especially sausage!
Anyway, i could go on. There are things that i will miss about Aus, but i wasn't born here.

I miss all those things too. It's funny but it's just occurred to me in one sentence really after someone asked me how living in Australia compares to the UK just the other day. The words hit me like lightening.
I answered...'it's been like being married to the wrong person for 51/2 years'.
I'm going home very soon. Can't wait. Bored stupid now.

I miss all those things also. Interestingly in the Off Topic section of my triathlon UK forum this subject came up and I was surprised to see how many people there were so positive about the UK. Triathletes tend to be fairly driven and positive people anyway, but there were far more pro UKers than doom and gloomers (although there were some).
I used to race motorbikes and still love them, but I can't in any way under any circumstances see how anyone could possibly enjoy riding a Harley or cruiser type bike. Then someone said to me, 'it doesn't matter that it doesn't go, stop, handle and is expensive' it's how it makes you feel. And I think that's the same for the UK, on paper there are many reasons not to be there, but they don't account for feelings.
Like an old favourite shabby coat, it's still your favourite coat.

I could list 1000 thing I miss and would be hard pressed to come up with which things I miss most but for me one thing that really sums it up is when I when I recall going fishing on some lake or pond with my Dad, early in the morning, before first light and watch the mist on the water burn off as the summer sun would slowly break the day, and you could hear the wood pidgeons cooing. That feeling of a quiet day, surrounded by nature in a beautiful part of the country really says 'this is it' to me.
I gave up fishing when I started to race motorbikes and have never fished in Oz as it's way to redneck here for me, no finesse at all (plus it's nearly all salt water). A few years ago I bought some gear over there and left it there and me Dad and I go whenever I'm over and it really brings it all back to me, all the years I missed out on. These pics were taken in 05 and are from a lake in Somerset, I borrowed some gear. It was late June and Dad joined us later, which brought back all the memories for him and me and is one of the things we are both looking foward to getting into together again. We had a fantastic time fishing last year as well but those pics are on a different pooter.

Trout
Salmon (both these are pretty expensive to fish for with club costs and syndicates etc. It would be way cheaper just to buy some).
Eels
Pike (but whilst technically they can be eaten, they're not great and different counties an EAs have different rules on whther they can be taken, and when).
Sea fish, just about anything.
Cod,ling, black bream, pollock, bass, mackerel. monkfish, the list is long.
You really have to remember that for the vast majority, angling is a catch and release passtime rather than the Aussie 'fish for food' mentality.

I can safely say I hate fishing and eating fish (unless it's from the Chip shop)
My Dad fished off the pier and we had fish a lot as kids, it put me off for life.
I miss many of those things listed (although we have nice thick carpet here)
I miss family,
Friends who live nearby
Going to town for shopping and not being gone all day just for basics
Walking places
I really miss enjoying the sunshine. Here if it's sunny it get so beedin hot I hate to see it. I used to enjoy summer and seeing the sun come out in UK.

My OH missed his fishing too, he couldn't stand sea fishing.
Since we came back to UK he goes fishing every weekend with my 2 lads, they just love it. They went carping last week. Bliss to them, but i'd rather go clothes shopping hahaha.

Others I miss
Rain
Warm towels off the radiator when you get out of the shower
Knowing where to buy things
Making rounds of drinks in the office
Having a good laugh
Being able to go watch the football
Being able to buy curry paste, noodles and chinese sauces all in the same store
Being close to France
Bonfire Night
Christmas TV (any holiday TV)
My dog
Definately relate with Mummy in the Foothills, as soon as the sun comes out here its too hot. I miss driving my convertible on a sunny day even though its only 10 degrees. Too hot to even own one here.
Things I will miss when I move back to the UK (had to rack my brains for this one)
Paying $5 for my breakfast at Starbucks instead of #10
Sitting outside restaurants at 10.00pm
Doing the rounds at Halloween and the neighborhood being pleased
DisneyLand being on the doorstep

my 4x4
ok im done!
