Are you getting the mossies at home, or are you traveling? We built a screen room 3 summers ago, and not had chance to use it in "anger" yet as not really seen the mossies!!:frown:
Someone mentioned plants - not seen them this year, but the last couple of years a few of the supermarkets have had a "mosquito plant" for sale - sort of a citronella smell. Quite pleasant. I've had a few dotted around the patio, but couldn't really tell if they worked because we haven't had many mossies the last 2 years (anything to do with the colder than normal winters?). This year after a very mild winter I've been expecting a bad crop of mossies, but we haven't seen them yet. It's been windy, which normally helps, plus the subdivision seems to be misting more regularly, so maybe thats it. Nothing like the smell of napalm in the morning....;) When the kids were younger we used to use the blue avon stuff - there was a stall selling it in Katy Mills, but dont know if its there this year. The green Off is normally good for us. Some folk swear by a fresh drier sheet in your waistband. Others say find someone the mossies like and sit by them - err, tag, you're it!:D |
Re: I give up...
You can also get patches containing vitamin B1 and aloe called Don't Bite Me patches, I just haven't got round to ordering some to try.

Re: I give up...
I'm a bug magnet too...especially mozzies. This is the only thing that works for me...keeps deer/horse flies and wasps away from me too. I've been using it for about 10 years.

Re: I give up...
Oh I bought the wrong one. I thought it was the Off one you recommended. Doh!
Chocolate Babz, let me know how you get one as it sounds like you get the same reactions as I do. The one on my wrist swelled to take over 3/4 of my wrist. Today I have tried skin so soft original oil spray. Think I only got 1 new one, and not a big one. I was only outside to and from the grocery store though. |

Most mornings when I wake I have two or three bug bites on my face. Tonight the Lentek device will be at the side of my bed. |

I haven't tried Off...I may have mentioned that they now sell a fan type device...but I wouldn't have recommended it as I haven't used it.

Re: I give up...
I get bitten loads too. As does hubby and our daughter. Our son has only had 2 bites though which pisses me right off! I was considering getting one of those Off clip on things but not sure if they were worth the money. I have had a few bites on my ankles that have swollen up quite dramatically. OH said it looked like I had been shot with a pellet gun on my left leg last week. Isn't he lovely?! :sneaky:

When I was a child our parents used to take us into Derbyshire for a picnic at the weekends. My parents and sister used to sit outside on a blanket in a field...I stayed fastened in the car...windows up. The next morning I would be covered from head to toe with bug bites. |

They love me too, swell up the diameter of an orange and are get really hot, then really itchy. I bought some Burt's bee's herbal insect repellant this morning in Kroger. Haven't tried it yet but I've tried nearly everything else.

For folks in Maine, Reny's sell the things for a couple of bucks, both for the device and packet of refills, which would save a fair bit, if they worked. Bit cumbersome though I thought... |

Re: I give up...
Off Deep Woods formula. Keeps the little buggers away like a charm. Like a lot of the English folk on here, my skin is pure Filet Mignon to mozzies and the bites swell like ugly boils.
