How often do you go back to the U.K.?

I've been here almost 36 years, but have returned only 5 times. The first time I returned was 13 years after I had left. The last time I was there was 1998.

Not often enough...my ideal is twice a year which I did achieve this year but I have gone for a five year stretch in my 20 years here. It all depends on finances and kids for me. I know I feel much healthier on an emotional level when that next trip is in the works.

Usually about 4 or 5 times a year with work. I usually tack on a few days for beers, curry etc. with various mates, and maybe a bit of traveling about.

3 times in 8 years. Do not expect to go again till next year.

When my parents were alive, I tried to get back every year. Now it's every 2 - 3 years. I haven't been back since 2009, but I am going back this Fall and really looking forward to it. The longest I ever stayed away was 6 years and that was due to my circumstances (got divorced, finances, started new job with little to no vacation time).

Just wondering, why do you not go back very often? Do you not have any family left back there, or do you not feel close to them? You don't have to answer if you think the question is too personal.

I was widowed before I was 30 years old (my husband was killed in combat) and it took me a long time to recover from that. I felt so much pain that I just didn't want to visit England. Then I got remarried, started a new life, and, suddenly, 13 years had passed.
My younger siblings have grown up, married, had kids and we've lost the connection we used to have. I'm like a stranger in a strange land there so I prefer not to visit now. My siblings come here once in a while because they love Manhattan.

I've been back once in seven years. In that time my mum has been out four times, my sister three and my dad two.
We're planning another trip out soon, though.

We do alternate Christmas's here/there, and get over to the UK every other summer too. When I was working, I used to go over at least 6 times a year.

My Mum comes over to visit 3-4 times a year (to see her grandson, not me!)

My mam was out April last year, but that was probably the last time. She's getting on, and longhaul travel is getting difficult for her.

Do everyone's parents enjoy their trips to America?

Mum's 60, just retired and in good health at the moment fortunately and so enjoys coming out here. It will get more difficult as she gets older. Not looking forward to that, especially since my Dad's no longer with us and my Sister is in Holland.

My mum had been to America before I'd even meet my wife. She had a friend who was out with her husband who was on a work visa that she had been out to visit. She seems to enjoy her time here but I think the traveling takes it out of her.
