Sorry if it's getting to be a bit of a bandwagon here with so many "I"ve done my time, I'm going home" threads...but here's another one!
SWMBO, 2 kids and me came to Texas in 2001 with me on a job transfer.
Been there, done that, wouldn't change it if I had a chance to go back (I might change some of the mistakes we made, being so green).
Now, after 13 years, the politics and religion is finally getting over the "ignore it" threshold and the pull of home, relatives left behind and a new Grandchild in Wales has just got too much.
Both "kids" are now settled here (daughter is a teacher in MS, son is a car salesman in TX) but, of course, we feel bad about "abandoning" them.
But then I thought, "hang on, we gave them something amazing - the chance to experience a life they would have had little opportunity of experiencing otherwise PLUS a US passport which means they now can live and work anywhere in the US or Europe - on a whim, forever..whatever they want".
All the stuff we need to organize is terrifying - we have a large Golden Retriever to ship, I've got to get a job - damn the last interview I had was before the Internet was invented!, we've got to sell the house etc. etc...
But the process has begun.
You have to, in the end, do what feels right.
We'll leave a large Texas-sized house on an acre, two cars (a pickup and a V8 Mustang), swimming pool etc. etc.
We'll be able, if we are lucky, to afford a bus shelter in the UK.
No regrets though.....
The plan is: Family Christmas, US family included, in England.
(It's nice to have a plan!)
