Hogmanay

I know, I am going to hell in a handcart for that one.
I don't like whisky either...but I am quite fond of shortbread.
The best thing about Hogmanay in Scotland is all the first footing, you don't get that here at all.

Lucky you, that is no time at all.
I am picturing you with the sweat dripping off you slogging through the hearty food pearly.
I am going to be blasphemous now and say that I don't really like Scottish food so won't be having anything Scottish to eat.
Now everyone is going to flame me I guess...

Just got back from the scotmid at tollcross. It was packed with 18 year olds buying 24 packs of tennents and 12 packs of WKD. So don't romanticize Hogmanay here too much! The streets will be filled with pissed neds, and it's going to be -5c tonight too.
We'll be watching the fireworks from the warmth of a friends living room. They have a decent view of the castle (though from the tollcross side, so the fireworks will be in reverse.) Plenty cocktails, dancing and some good banter, should be a good night. Lots of American/British couples too, and a bunch of us worked on the Obama campaign here, so plenty to celebrate and look forward to!
And tomorrow will be meat pie, tatties, some hair of the dog and then maybe some first footing.
My advice is, wherever you are, throw open your house on hogmanay or new years day to all of your friends and neighbors, and show them how we do it. Teach them the real words to Auld Lang Syne, and remind them that the Scots invented everything that's worth having.
