hi
just a quickie i have read (on the forum)that the uk government treats expats returning to england poorly? surely its just a case of getting a passport flying back and taking up where you left off? i have a bit of debt to clear up and will be going back for good. has anyone experienced anything like this in uk?

I headed back home 10 years ago,so can't speak of a recent experience but back then I had no problems at all.I had been out of the country for 20 years previous to that,applied for the dole (10 years ago)but before I got any payments managed to secure a job so did'nt need it.Things may have changed but I'm sure someone on this forum can give you an answer thats more up to date!Good luck!

Yes it is just a case of flying back and taking up where you left. We came back 6 months ago. The one and only problem was having no 'credit rating/score'.
We claimed family allowance straight away and it was back dated to the day we landed in UK.
I don't know how big your debt is, but if you intend to pay up why would there be a problem!

i was thinking that if you return to uk after living overseas would there be a problem signing on etc,hopefully i wont need to because i always find work,cant wait to get back

The sorts of problems you will have are to do with residency. If you have been permanently resident over seas for more then 12 months then some car insurers won't quote you, to start any higher education you have to be UK resident for minimum of 3 years or you pay international fees.
You can't sign on for job seekers if you have not payed NI, same for everyone.
We had to pay 10 months upfront for our first rental as we had no credit history for a couple of years. Could have got a mortgage though as I had not shut my bank account here, that was 2 years ago so they may have tightened up now.
