Hating a country.
 

Although I dont see much evidence of it I do occassionally see someone say how they hate a particular country. I have seen a few times someone will say how they cant wait to get out of this shithole (UK), what makes someone see a country in a way that very few others seem to ? I understand if someone lives in a particularly bad area and has a crap job etc but would that poison your mind to the extent if totally clouds your view ?
I feel I am lucky to be able to live in 2 countries both of which I love for different reasons. I just find it hard to imagine what someones life must be like to make them actually hate a country.

:D No, I dont have any experience of the US other than 2 weeks in Florida. It can apply equally to any country though.

No reason really, I have seen more Brits play the hate card thats all. I have no objection if anyone wants it moved.

I don't necessarily think it's about people "hating" a country. Personally I'm not happy in the UK for a few reasons, but I wouldn't say I hate it. I would like to experience something different in life, go on an adventure, explore a different corner of the world and have a change of scenery. There are reasons as to why I want to leave the UK and aspects of living here do annoy me, but I am not hateful towards it as a country. I feel privileged to have grown up in a westernised country with the opportunity to earn good money compared to other countries, I've had a good education and free health care. But now it's time for a change.

In that case this thread really isnt for you ;) I want to understand what makes people hate a country, I can understand hating your particular circumstances or situation by dont understand how you can hate a country. Just to add Im not talking about why people emigrate, that is perfectly understandable, it is solely what makes someone hate a country.

They do say these days that The BBC hates Britain but when trying to understand what this means myself it seems to point to them hating the suburban petite bourgeoisie, so an element of its people rather than IT. This also possibly pre-supposes that the BBC leadership have Marxist (Oh the Struggle the Struggle!) leanings :confused: :unsure:.

I don't "hate" Australia but I do "hate" Summer in Australia.

Isn't that the point of forums and threads? That no particular thread is necessarily for one person or another, it's more about getting varied opinions from different people. I gave my opinion about people not hating a particular country per se but wanting to do something different...

Since you cannot quantify your feelings as hating, any feelings that you have are off topic I would think. This is for haters or discussing haters and is therefore indeed not for you, unless you hate somewhere else you would like to discuss, in which case Come on Down! ;)

In the same way, hating a country's weather doesn't seem to engender anywhere near the same sentiments regarding a country that hating it body and soul does, so would seem to lay us open to becoming off topic very early in the day. That said, the English climate can get a lot of people going and the momentum would carry them to something deeper and justify thoughts of leaving.

As PistolPete said this thread is specifically to try and find out what makes people hate a country, you apparently dont hate the country so it obviously isnt aimed at you or anyone with a similar view. I fully understand people leave a country for lots of reasons, it is rarely because they hate the country they are in.

I am quite often referred to as a 'hater' because I am very critical of Australia, it couldn't be further from the truth if they actually knew me. I am with you though, I dislike the summer big time :D

I'm trying to conjure up a mentality within which:

One chose to leave the UK because it was mostly the people one couldn't stand and not the actual country.

One moved to France and settled in a non-French-speaking English expat community in the Dordogne and then moaned that one hated the arrogant French, France's taxes and bureaucracy but loved its wine and (most) restaurant/bistro cooking. One imported most of one's day-to-day supplies from UK supermarkets.

One then moaned that one hated the way the bloody foreigners had ruined the UK to such an extent that one felt one could never return.

For economic reasons one then chose to return to the UK.:);)
