Happy Easter, everybody! But with no day off Good Friday, and no day off Easter Monday, it does lose something.....

I think kids make the holidays, for us at least.
Friday I took Good Friday off, I'm lucky and make my own schedule. Went to the pier, had ice cream and my kids went to the fair.
Saturday - My kids went on three egg hunts with Spiderman and Tonka truck easter baskets I got from Target. Picked up freshly baked hot cross buns from the local English bakery.
Today - The wife laid out chocolate, fake straw and a note from the Easter bunny. The wife and the kids are off to church for a pre-service easter egg hunt and Easter breakfast. I almost went until I found there's an Easter Sunday double header football on TV, ManU V Liverpool and Arsenal V Chelsea. I'm making a traditional lamb roast, with roast potatoes and Yorkshire pud for dinner later.
It's what you make of it, like any holiday.

We are having ham for dinner. Always with the ham... a holiday comes, and we have to get a ham. I wanted lamb, but it was far too expensive. Still, I'm doing some nice roast potatoes with it, and I might do some yorkie puds, even though they don't really go with ham but who cares, lol! And loads of mixed veg and gravy, mmmmm-mmmmm!

For afters, we are having oreo creme pie.
Just a slither of that for me though, I'm trying to lose weight.
He decided last night that we were to have a proper nice dinner today... then last night I thought "hey, hang on, he's working tomorrow!"
So guess who has to cook it?! ME as usual lol!!
Cheeky little git, isn't he?

Saturday and Sunday. Good Friday and Easter Monday exist here in name only.
We've got most of the extended family coming round in a couple of hours, but even so, to me Easter here seems to be a big fuss without reward. I do miss proper Easter Bank Holiday weekends.

I'd prefer to have Xmas abolished as a government holiday and replaced by floating private holidays, at least in the private sector.
Edit: actually, I'm talking rubbish, aren't I? It's a government holiday, so the private sector can already do what it wants.

I went to Good Friday services after work in the evening since that is when my church has their Good Friday service. The Lutheran Church's service on GF has never failed to reduce me to tears, it is so low keyed and moving.
The Easter bunny left Jim a box of Whitman's chocolate and I made Challah Bread to go with our ham dinner this afternoon and an all chocolate chocolate cream pie for dessert. Chocolate pie crust, chocolate filling and chocolate whipped cream with shavings of dark chocolate as garnish.
Since GF is a somber day, I don't care about not having the day off from work. Seems strange to have a day off where the deity you believe in has been put to death and you are going to use the day off for fun activities. As for Easter Monday, it has never been a day off in America so can't miss what you never had.
Your thoughts, however, are shared by my Canadian husband and he is aghast that I have to work that Friday and Monday.

School was off on Friday around here...
No hot cross buns at BJ's when we did our grocery shop this weekend which was a bit of a disappointment, might be too late, even Trader Joes didn't have any...oh well.
