We are in the slow and torturous process of moving back to the UK after 7 years on Vancouver Island. It has been an amazing experience as it is so, so beautiful here but can't help feel it isn't home, miss friends and family......heard that before? I'm married to a Canadian and he has lived in the UK before. We have lots of close friends in the UK where as here.....well, we have a handful of friends and they're not lifers! They're lovely people but it's just not the same......Us Brits need to have a good daily belly laugh and I can assure you, that is rare here. Sorry but it's true. We speak the language but that's about it. Strange but true. Having said that the people here int he Valley are very lovely. polite and honest......it's all just very, very predictable.

Did I mention I was pregnant and have a 3 year old.....and plannng on going back post baby.....are we crazy? Don't answer that!

My advice is do it as it is truly beautiful here but like many have said don't burn bridges at home.....don't sell everything....as I did......go and have an adventure.......
OH, GOODNESS.....I NEED A DOSE OF BLIGHTY.

Couldnt have put it better myself! As for the daily belly laugh....when I read that I just knew that, that was whats missing in my life here. Today is a beautiful fall day and it certainly seduces you into thinking that this is the best place to be, but really, being close to friends etc...and "talking the same talk" is what really matters....its that connection that I miss. Lovely, polite people here (victoria) but rather bland and I feel they take themselves way too seriously. Oh....Im homesick!:(

It's lovely that others are miserable on such a beautiful day and not just me! Forgive me for wallowing your misery! But alas it's true. I just went down to the local coffee shop and decided to get positive only to leave feeling much worse. How could you go bck to England, it's so safe, so beautiful here.......kill me. Oh for a grey sky and a bit of Blighty banter over a glass, ok a bottle of....anything alcoholic. Help! Sometimes I feel like I come from another planet rather than another country.

I'm in the Comox Valley so not a million miles from you. We've been here for six years and have a lovely house in the Village of Cumberland which is quite quirky I guess. It's been a great time but growing to hate it and I don't want that to happen. I'd like to leave feeling good about the experience......but so much to do.....have a baby, sell house, get dog micro-chipped and vaccinated, sell worldy possessions...again....aaaaggghh.....can't beathe!

I was in Aus for a few weeks and loved it but I found it very anti-Britain which was really irritating after a while. They felt sorry for me that I lived on Vancouver Island because it snowed int he Winter. Oh how awful! Both Brits and Aussies in Aus go a bit weird....must be the heat and the flies!

Re: was the grass greener?

Def was not greener for me. I miss fam and friends way to much and realise what a good life i had back in the Uk. Life is not bad here but its just too dull for me and i just feel like an outsider here. I have only been here 8 months but know for def in my heart Canada is not for me. Going home to London for the Thanksgiving Weekend and Christmas with my hubby and can not wait! I am worried I may not want to get on the plane to come back!

The only thing that is really keeping me here for now is a good contract job i am currently in which will be ending next summer. Also giving time for my hubby to sort out things here. My fear is getting trapped here which is why i am thinking next year will be long enough.
