I like Nigella's recipes - they're so simple:

- have shower, shave and baby-lotion
- put on silk negligee (or not...)
- melt a gallon of high-cocoa content chocolate over a low heat
- add a pint of double-cream + a glass of Grand Marnier
- pour 2 glasses of (real) champagne
- dip finger in cream and...

A POLICE FORCE HAS BEEN SET UP TO ISSUE £1,000 FINES TO ANYONE TO UPDATE THEIR PERSONAL DETAILS ON THE GOVERNMENT'S NEW DATA BASE, IT HAS EMERGED. THE UNIT, PART OF THE IDENDITY AND PASSPORT SERVICE, IS EXPECTED TO SEND THE PENALITIES BY POST, AFTER SNOOPING THROUGH COMPUTER RECORDS. POTENTIAL PITFALLS INCLUDE, FOGETTING TO TELL THE GOVERNMENT OF A CHANGE OF ADDRESS OR NAME, FAILING TO NOTIFY OFFICIALS OF AN ERROR ON THE NATIONAL IDENTITY REGISTER AND FAILING TO HAND IN AN ID CARD BELONGING TO A RELATIVE WHO HAS DIED. ALL CASH RAISED WILL GO TO THE TREASURY. LAST NIGHT IT ALSO EMERGED THE REGISTER WILL BE USED AS A POPULATION DATA BASE TO REPLACE THE HISTORIC CENSUS. FROM 2009 ANYBODY APPLYING FOR A PASSPORT MUST ENROL ON THE REGISTER AND HAND OVER A RAFT OF DETAILS, LIKELY TO INCLUDE FINANCIAL DATA AND ADDRESS LISTS AS WELL AS HAVE FINGER PRINTS AND A FACIAL SCAN TAKEN. SHADOW HOME SECRETARY DAVID DAVIS SAID "THIS SINSTER FORCE WILL BE COLLECTING MONEY FROM UK CITIZENS TO GO STRAIGHT INTO THE TREASURY, THERE IS A REAL DANGER THIS WILL BE ANOTHER STEALTH TAX". THE HOME OFFICE INSISTED THAT THE £1,000 FINE FOR NOT RETURNING A DEAD RELATIVES ID CARD WAS DESIGNED TO PREVENT MISUSE. OFFICIALS PROMISED TO HANDLE THE RETURN OF SUCH CARDS SENSITIVELY. THEY REFUSED TO SAY HOW MANY CIVIL SERVANTS WOULD BE NEEDED TO CREATE THE NEW "POLICE FORCE", THOUGH SCORES ARE LIKELY TO MONITOR THE RECORDS OF ALL BRITIONS.

Great, can't wait..at least it may help reduce benefit fraud. BTW private companies know more about us from our loyalty cards anyway!

Yes, as much as I love the UK, I recognize there are plenty of things that truly are worse - but the worst of the lot is the petty, sensationalist carping on in the media. Whatever happened to GOOD news!!!! (even the bbc news web site for example - every headline is depressing).

Well I've been back now for 8 months, there's been some bad times (not least when I saw how much my mortgage would be), but I am otherwise just luuurving it. And if any of you doom and gloomers want to try to change my mind, (ahem - Clint Eastwood voice) "Go ahead, punk ... Make my day"

Hi Dunroving...I'm so pleased you're not regretting your decision to return home. IMHO the majority do seem happy to be back in good old Blighty.

All the very best and a big hug to Susie.
