Re: Going home!!!
Good point (although I was hoping you were going to say buying a home was more stressful...bugger!!!) We're selling "As-Is" so hopefully that helps with any problems that may come up after we leave. Not that there should be any problems but you never know.:fingerscrossed:

Re: Going home!!!
We too are also in the same boat we would like to have kids also and I just don't see myself with a baby here in NY and all my family back home. We sold our house last year it took a year to sell and we took a loss on it which delayed our moving we were hoping to be back last year but it was not to be. But now we hope to be home in the spring summer all being well. I too am getting so sick of everything here. I am totally off the food I eat like 2 things I can't wait to go to Tescos and M&S for some real food not laced with so much artificial crap :) I came out here in my late 20's and im in my mid 30's I am glad I did but now I want to go home for the same reasons as you.

Re: Going home!!!
I'm originally from Los Angeles and now living in England, I also lived in Italy for two years which was hell. I love it here in England and could never see myself moving back to the States.
After living in England I could never see myself raising my daughter in the US. She will have more opportunities here than she ever would in the US. Medical is better, the food is better without all that artificial and GMO crap in the food in the US. I was a real estate agent in Los Angeles for many years, if you need some advice on who to hire, send me a (pm) and I can see if I could recommend a trustworthy agent. Good luck on your trip back to wonderful England. |

Hi Giovanni, do you mind saying what specifically you love about England other than the food, medical and great opportunities for your daughter? Thanks so much. I will be moving back in the UK hopefully around the middle or the end of summer 2012... I'm always interested in the opinion of those who have lived in the US.
I like the weather here in England, I know that will very depending on where in England. However where I live the weather is very nice, no extremes. I have live in a Mediterranean which I liked except for the blazing hot humid summers. I lived in the desert, extremely hot all summer day and night, cold and too dry in the winter, your skin chaps and cracks in that climate and it is very uncomfortable. I lived in a tropical climate, beautiful 3 months out of the year the other 9 hot and humid to the extreme. Here in England the summers are mild and very comfortable, spring and fall are very nice, and winter is cold but mild. right now in November it is foggy and misty which I don't like but the weather changes so often that tomorrow could be clear and sunny. The people here are so warm and friendly, prior to moving here all I heard was Brits are cold stand offish people, not true. 8-9 out of 10 people on the road are courteous, it the states it was about 50-50 and in Italy 1 out of 10 were courteous. Medical & Healthcare - The Best! In the states you will hear, NHS is slow and behind the times and since healthcare is socialized, you won't be treated with the best care, TOTALLY NOT TRUE! Healthcare is totally top notch and no long waits, not waiting for tests, no waiting for treatment, no waiting for surgery, that is all American propaganda! The schools are wonderful, the students show respect to one another and to the teachers, of course there are always the exceptions, however my daughter is getting a top notch education here. In the states it was alright not great and college was way too expensive. In Italy my daughter was fighting with the boys everyday picking on her or touching her and pinching her ass. When you approach a teacher of director of the school, they say boys will be boys, what do you want us to do. If possible spend some time here in England before moving, the experience is different for everyone, however I can't see anyone not loving the country side, the people, the food the everything. :sunglasses: If any Brit says I am crazy, I just tell them to spend sometime in the US or in Italy for a few years, they will run back to th the UK and plant themselves. |

If any Brit says I am crazy, I just tell them to spend sometime in the US or in Italy for a few years, they will run back to th the UK and plant themselves. Posts like this one just irritate me. By all means have a personal opinion and tell personal, positive stories, but have a little objectivity. People come on MBTTUK looking for factual information and support, not to hear that the streets of London are paved with gold. |
Re: Going home!!!
If the post irritates you, I'm sorry to hear that. However it is my opinion from having lived in 3 countries, I'm planted here in England.
No the streets of London are not paved with gold, no NHS is not perfect, but it is compared to the US unless you are very wealthy. In the US you could wait just as long for surgery if you are not wealthy! Education compared to Italy and most of the US, it is great here, maybe not to native of the UK! You were born here, you see it different to the eyes of someone coming from another country. Italy is a corrupt hell hole, however for someone coming from Tunisia or Morocco to Italy it is paradise. Since I irritated you so much, I will reiterate my statement. No England is not perfect, the government is not perfect, not all the people are wonderful and friendly, the healthcare is not perfect, driving is not perfect and not all are courteous drivers and the streets of London are not lined with gold. However all of the above are better than I am used to living in 3 other countries the US four different states CA, AZ, CO & IL, Italy and France! My final opinion is that England has a far far better quality of life than most places, and that is not sugar coating nothing, that is fact from an experienced person! |
