Hi folks,
14 years in the States and homesickness has settled in with a vengeance!
My husband and I are both British by birth but also have US citizenship. I've been wanting to go back for a few years but knew he was happy here. We even bought a house! But priorities change, we miss family and we want to have a baby. I just really can't see me raising a child in Los Angeles.
I'm also fed up with the "life" here. Live to work?!? No bloody thank u! I came to the states just out of college, it was an adventure I'm glad I took but its time to go home. The longer I'm here the more this place annoys me.
We go back at Christmas for a vacation then, once the new year hits the planning to move back starts! Dogs' paperwork (we have 4...........gulp!) Finding a property manager for the house and packing things up. Hope to be back by end of May (at least the weather will be a little better!) Apprehensive but excited!!!!
Hope u don't mind me sharing. I only just found this forum and all the posts have been really helpful!!!

Thanks guys

Good luck! Isn't it funny that sometimes the homesickness kicks in after so many years in some instances. I was quite happy here until this year, our nineth year and now just want to go home! I would never have believed it not too long ago.

I know! It's so strange!! I think for me it's a shift in priorities. In my 20's I wanted everything that (I thought) America had to offer. But in my 30's I just want my family around me. I'm glad I moved here, I met some wonderful people but I'm VERY happy to be going back
Good luck if you decide to head back. Homesickness sucks. I feel your pain!!!

We think we may have sold the house today, but I'll believe it only when the cash is in the bank! Now just two cars, a motorbike and furniture to go....I agree with you too, in my 30s I loved the independence of living here, now in my 40s (just!) I want access to my family back home. I also want decent food, decent supermarkets, a job contract, NHS etc etc!!!! Can't wait to get back!

Smart thinking about going back before having children. 4 kids later, 2 of them tween/teen, and we appear to be stuck. All the best.

Thanks NohinSara! Good luck to u too
Just trying to figure out if we try and sell our house (not a great prospect in Los Angeles!!) or just rent it out for a while?!?
Today I'm going to start making a list (a long list!!) of everything I need to get done before we leave......*gulp!*

Well I met with my accountant today to ask about dissolving my business and tax queries. He's also a real estate guy so I was able to ask his opinion on selling or renting my house in Los Angeles. We both came to the decision to sell
My DH isn't a huge fan of this outcome but he understands how much of a hassle renting will be from about 6000 miles away even with a good property manager.
We'll probably look to listing it in the new year
Me thinks it's going to be a very stressful 6 months or so.....

Good for you britwhore!!!! we have approx 11 weeks left before we move back. Sold motorbike both cars and the house plus had a few good garage sales. just paperwork to sort out now. Hope everything goes smoothley with the house sale. I sold mine privatly for 20k less than its value for a quick sale. Ultimatly a Realtour would have taken 15k in commision so ime only 5k down and got the sale, you could try doing that as well.
Anyways good luck with whatever you decide to do
