HI there.

I am a singaporean, married and has a son age 4, looking for information about living and working in Farnham, Surrey - it is for a job possibility, before taking a leap.

Can anyone share with me about farnham? ie the cost of living, environment, education, food, entertainment etc.

Ah my first post and it gets to be a helpful one!

Farnham is my home town so fire away.

In general it is a nice small town (about 50,000) in a good part of the country. Its claim to fame is that it has more pubs per head than any other place in the UK.

Schooling is excellent and the town has a reasonable slection of shops and restaurants although don't expect to have your heart stopped. Guildford is 10 mins drive and has excellent shopping/leisure centre/restaurant options. London is 50 mins on the train. Thus far it seems to have escaped much of the chaviness that is endemic in other small towns although it is not totally immune.

Despite falling house prices elsewhere the market seems to be holding its own thanks to its proximity to London and slightly cheaper prices than Guildford which is traditional commuter belt. A small three bed terrace is going to cost about £300k, a 4 bed detached about £550k +

Lots for children to do - the town as a reputation for attracting professionals who have had their first child and want to escape London life. So prety much every group imaginabe is available.
