Question FBI Check for DBS Help?

Hi, Quick history, Lived in America under husbands work visa up until 2013, then moved permanently back to the UK.

My daughter has since completed University back here in the UK. She is now applying for a teaching job and they have completed the DBS check on her but are requesting an FBI check from America and a copy of her fingerprint card?

I have looked at the form but it only looks relevant to US permanent legal residents or citizens and it asks for her SSN which she didn't have as she was a H4 visa holder and thus wan't issued with one.

She explained to the teaching agency that the form didn't seem relevant to her situation as she was a temporary visa holder but they just told her to contact the Home Office.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

You don't need to be a citizen or permanent resident to obtain an FBI check. She'll need to provide this in order to meet the safeguarding requirement to teach in the UK. They will usually take several months to obtain so I wouldn't delay if she is expected to start at the beginning of the autumn term.

As BiP says you don't need to be a perm resident or citizen to get an FBI check. Many people need them for work or migration purposes after living in the US.

Contact your local county police headquarters about having the fingerprints taken.

Hi, Thanks for your reply, I'll point her in that direction then, Do you happen to know what she should 'tick' on the form when she's asked is she's a legal permanent resident or citizen and should she leave the SSN field blank? Ifeel like that would instantly be a failed check?

Thanks for your reply, It's quite confusing because in order for her to complete the form she needs to say whether she's a LPR or USC, she's neither and she has no SSN so she falls between the gaps. Would you happen to know which Home Office she should contact for advice on this? US or UK?

Why does she need Home Office advice? The UK Home Office will refer her back to DBS. I suspect the US equivalent will refer her to the FBI but I don't see the need to contact either.
People all over the world fill this form in daily to get FBI checks and most of them only need the check because of a few months spend in the US, they are not citizens or LPR. I can't see that she should have any issue with it. It looks like the same form I used to deal with when I took the fingerprints for FB checks nearly 20 years ago, certainly hasn't changed much. And very few of those people were US citizens or LPR.

U.S. Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident: - she just ticks the box Yes or No - from what you have said, she will tick NO
Last Four Digits of Social Security Number: N/A should cover it, or Did Not Have One.

Be thankful that it is just the FBI. You cannot imagine the hassle that people have had when they have worked in exotic places like Burkina Faso or Mongolia. I taught in schools and iniversities in Africa and Asia and know that coming back to teach in the UK would have been very difficult becasue of the need for "disclosure" for all the places I taught in.
