I am moving back to the UK after being in the USA 19 years. I never took a citizenship here, so am a True Brit through and through. (Will be moving in with a British other half..renting from my brother)
My ex is a US citizen and will be paying me alimony, in return I will pay child support - I also am on disability and get a US SSDI allowance. Anyone got a clue on taxes etc; who I pay and where??
Do I apply for benefits in the UK?
The brain has just about had more than it can take
Where do I start??????

When I decided I had had enough of New Zealand, I swore I would never EVER move back there, again. But.... well, it's like that old saying aint it? The best laid plans of mice and men?
A few months back in Blighty and I can't wait to get back.

Fortunately, I have NZ citizenship, the best thing I ever did!
I think after the amount of time you've been in the US ytou might feel it as hard as me to adjust. Good luck, though whatever happens.

Why turn it down? Anyhow, yeah you can get benefits pretty much as soon as you get here. Join the thousands & thousands of migrants on the UK gravy train!

Sadly my benefits will be due to ms - my ex is sucking me for huge child support - which is beyond belief after a 19 yr marriage - I have to pay based on his alimony!!!!!
At least I get my sanity and a pint of ale that isn't served in a frosted glass!!

Sadly the girls want to stay with dad in the usa - they are teenagers
Unfortunately I can't look after them by myself due to my health so I'm up a gumtree......

I can't blame you for feeling like you do, it's personal preference for everyone. I can fully understand you wanting to move back to the UK too. Good luck with your escape from the USA.
Hope that everything goes well for you once you get back home, and that it all works out for you both.

I would get the citizenship. It will be money well spent and save trouble in the long run should change occur for any number of reasons.... some reasons that don't exist today but may exist tomorrow.
I'd start researching whether you can get any incapacity/disability benefits in the UK for MS. I'm no expert and only have read a little on this subject so am uncomfortable to advise but I think MS is a questionable disability in the UK because it's symptoms are on a scale. To qualify it is more about how you are impacted rather than what it is that causes the disability. Perhaps if you show them your US SSDI, this will strengthen your case.
Good luck with your research and move

Alimony would end if there was a marriage or something, whereas child support continues until the kids are a certain age, so it's probably best to have two different types of transactions for now, probably.

.....So OP would probably be better off not getting re-wed till child support ends
