Done it....But
After 2 and a bit years of tears, shouting, fighting and whinging to some fellow expats, we have managed to stick it out and now have our aussie cit-ship.
So no more whining, it's time to pack up and go home, or so I thought:( OH company here have offered him a great package shares etc, although still not enough to change his mind, I thought, as we have been waiting for his old company (in UK) to make him an offer. We are supposed to be coming back and he is to open an office for them in ELY Cambridgeshire. (which they have been waiting near on two years for him to do) He receives the offer today and I could have cried, the offer was so crap he just looked at it and said what an insult (not much more than he was on when he left them in 2004 as an associate) they want him to go back into a higher position, with more responsibility. I have struggled and suffered so much but stuck it out as he wanted the cit-ship for the children, and now he has said ''he ain't going back for that, what an insult" And with anti the UK has gone to the dogs, it is such an angry nation,robbing government Dad here I will have no chance:( God I feel like shit and the fact I have consumed a bottle of wine is not helping:blink: Just having a drunken rant, life is sooo crap S X |

I am so sorry Any chance he can renegoitate his package with UK job?... or is it an excuse he needed to stay? Im really sorry - it must be a dreadful shock for you. Take care Chrissy x |
Re: Done it....But
What a b*gg*er! As Chrissy said - is this just the excuse he was looking for? Can he get into a "bidding war" if they are keen to get him back maybe knowing what they are competing against would help them up the ante a bit. Whilst it must be fantastic for his ego to be offered a super package here, surely he must see the effect it has on your mental health. Go easy on the self medication - vary it a bit, try chocolate during the day. {{{hugs}}}

Like i said to you, if they want him, they will come up with the goods. Maybe that was just the first refusal. Anyway, congrats on the citizenship, you are now an Aussie:p |

Keep those areas for me, I still love that house in Moulton, and found a great house in Fordham. Thanks Sandra x another thing you can point out to him is that houses are incredibly hard to sell here at the moment and they are dropping in price (Im in negative equity :blink:) But from your point of view you will get more for your money/cheaper mortgage etc;) All the kids to applied for schools for next year have been told if they got a place or not this week. FHam now full, I hear but basically its a postcode lottery for all the schools round here. So, if you moved near a school, chances are you will get in. My friend from Ely only lived away 2.5mile from school but didnt get a place as other families nearer to it so you need to consider this. But its always easier to get a place when its not the same time everyone applies eg as i arrived in May, I HAD to have my kids educated, so if all schools say they are full, allowances have to be made so a place becomes available, I believe. It certainly was the case for mine. they just made a space for them -but im suffolk, not cambs. So, i reckon if you moved to FHam, there would be a good case for you to get a place whatever they say initially. The other place ive been recently is swaffham prior. Its lovely and v near FHam. Its so small its like a private school, outdoor pool, small classes etc and fantastic head. V middle class and chocolate box houses - but only about 4 or 5m from Fham. They have places. Lots of houses for rent everywhere at the mo, so you could just rent to get the postcode you want for a place, then move wherever when childs in. Sorry not much more help. while you out of country, they will prob say no to places but once here you will find its ok. Also, all they ask for is your address - they dont check how long youve been out of country etc i dont think. i wasnt asked but mine went back to same area. The other thing to bear in mind here is all the places you are interested in - the Yanks send their kids to local schools too and they get different postings, so IME, say one or 2 kids a class move per yr for whatever reason. So if you come back and its not the time everyones applying, you can pick up one of these spaces as there is normally notice a child will leave on a certain date. It does sort itself out though the hassles before are frustrating C x |

Re: Done it....But
Oh crikey Sandra, what a kick in the teeth. I feel your pain, believe me I do. I hope the company were just trying it on and can come up with a much better package to enable you to get home. Keep us posted and the very best of luck to you.:)

Re: Done it....But
Thanks everyone:)
The position at the moment is we are still waiting for them to come back with another offer, although he has said he is not sure if he wants to work for them now:( I think he feels really insulted, he worked for the for nearly 18 yrs before coming here,then to be offered more or less the same as he was on in 2004, with no incentive, but to take on more responsibility by opening and running an office for them. He is going to spend this weekend emailing some other companies, so fingers crossed something will come up soon.:unsure: Also I know everyone is hoping the market will drop at home (which I am too) but not until I have sold my house(in Surrey) Please someone buy it:) I have already dropped the price by 13,500. When we go back we will not go back to Surrey, he wants to move to a new area (Suffolk) as he refuses to work in and around London again. PS Victor Meldrew (I hate UK, OH's Dad from Spain) is going back on Thursday thank god, I have had 2 weeks of how I am ruining OH career and my childrens future, if I take them back to the UK:mad: I don't even know why he comes here, he just sits on his arse smoking cigars, drinking wine and moaning about the UK, funny thing is, he has not even lived there for 9 years:blink: and we never saw him when we lived in the UK, unless he needed a bed for the night. Why is it always the ones you don't want to see, come and visit:thumbdown: Wish my mum & dad or OH step dad could have come :wub: Sandra x |
Re: Done it....But
ARRRGH :curse::curse::curse:
He told me last night he wants to stay for a while longer :(:( I just want to go home. What can I say to him? I have stayed for 2 1/2 yrs as he wanted to get the citizenship for the children. He is not prepared to go back unless he secures a good job (director Level) and as most of the positions are in London and he flatly refuses to work in London again. I keep praying that his old company that have been after him for 2 yrs come back with a better offer or I am stuffed :( Very sad today :( |
