Reading post number 2 of this thread would be a good place to start.

Thanks I have read that but I cant seem to find out if we need to have the blood tests done again, they have only been here about 4 months and obviously had all this done before leaving. Does anybody know how long the blood test is valid for. Or is it a case of new country new blood test. Thanks

Did you ask for/ get a Pet Passport in the UK? (The Oz import requirements re Rabies mimic those for PETS so it is a good idea to get a passport done as well as the export docs, just in case travel back is required.)

If YES then this holds a record of chip/vax/blood test in the correct order - and remains valid as long as the rabies vaccine is boostered as advised by the manufacturer (1-3yrs dep. on brand/country). AND (most importantly) the pet passport number is automatically registered with DEFRA

If NO then you should still be ok due to the short time interval* - as long as you have kept the documentary evidence of chip>vax>blood test used to enter OZ, and the rabies vaccine is boostered appropriately. BUT there is no record at DEFRA so you will have to go through an Oz vet for the certification (Third Country Official Veterinary Certificate).

Either way you will still need to satisfy Oz export regs (fitness to travel), and complete the parasite treatment as per PETS.

Summary; no blood test if you can prove chip>vax>blood>booster

*Remember your pet cannot re-enter the UK until 6 months after the blood test, entry before that will require quarantine for the balance of the 6 months.

If any of you who have already move back are up to the challenge please pm me and let me know. It doesn't have to be fancy. You could just list the stuff you had to go through and perhaps some hints and tips.

In the meantime thank you so much to all of you who have already moved back but still visit this forum to offer advice and a friendly ear to those who are in the process of moving back. In some ways I think moving back to the UK is more scary than moving abroad in the first place and I know your help is much appreciated.

It would need several articles one for each country. While the DEFRA (UK) side is the same the originating country procedures probably differ. We've just completed (apart from the 24 hour pre flight flea/tick and the actual flying of) the work for our two dogs and its been a 7 month journey of frustrations and jumping through hoops. Half the battle was DEFRA knew what we needed to do to get the dogs INTO the UK, the USDA knew what we needed to do to get the dogs OUT of the USA but neither knew what the other wanted.
