T+hanks for all the tips. Is America Airlines out of business? That's who we were planning on going with, but they have no flights listed online. My husband got info from British Airways. We didnt know they might provide the crates though, I'm going to have him call. That will save a nice chunk of money.

I called the state department here and the girl on the phone said they didn't have to have rabies until they got here. But the mention of rabies jabs worried me. After dealing with mis information so long from the INS I am always doubtful as to what people say on the phone.

*America* or *American*? American Airlines, while hovering on the edge of Chapter 11 Bankruptcy, is still in business. They might have a "global partner", however, for the flights for your area (I *think* British Airlines is one of them) and the AA flight numbers will be listed only under the partner's banner. If this is the case you can find out on their websites.

Default Pet transport US to UK

If transporting a pet from the US to the UK check out

http://www.defra.gov.uk/

and do a search for PETS ( Pet travel Scheme) - otherwise known as "Pet Passports".

The government has to bail the airlines out though - they employ too many
people.

But thats United, AA and South West airlines now.

Hope my flight to Kansas is still on with United

Pardon me???? If the government would not charge 26% taxes for every airline
ticket, the airlines probably would be in some better shape.(in comparison you
don't pay any taxes for greyhound or amtrak tix as far as I know) What do you
expect after Sept. 11, high fuel prices, Iraq war, Security costs, high taxes
and cheaper tickets than you have ever seen before - in a lot of cases even
cheaper than a greyhound ticket. No wonder airlines are hurting and yes the
goverment should help the airlines. I don't even want to think about the
airlines bailout package that congress passed after Sept. 11, but most of that
money is still sitting there and most airlines won't ever see part of this
loan. Bush's way of driving down labor costs and breaking unions. That's what
this is all about, not about employing to many people!!!! Sorry but I had to
vent because this is effecting our lives directly and it upsets me that you
think that the airlines are in this mess because of too many employees.

I found this on the US Custom's website regarding importing cats and dogs into the US:

Cats and dogs must be free of evidence of diseases communicable to humans. Dogs older than three months must have proof of a rabies vaccination. This vaccination must have been given at least 30 days, but not more than one year, before the travel date. For more information, contact the Quarantine Division, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Atlanta, GA 30333; 404.498.1607; visit www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dg/animal.htm on the web; or request Customs publication Pets and Wildlife.

The US Fish and Wildlife Service maintains very strict controls, restrictions and prohibitions on importing animals, birds, turtles, endangered species, and almost all products made from the foregoing. Contact the US Fish and Wildlife Service at 4401 N Fairfax Drive, Arlington, VA 22203 or telephone 1.800.358.2104 for more information.

The full link is http://www.customs.gov/ImageCache/cg...f/v1/brief.pdf -- the Pets info is at the top of page 2.

Bottom line: Your dogs will need to be vaccinated for rabies BEFORE they arrive in the States, at least 30 days in advance.

Hope this helps!!

What do you mean they have no flights online?
Where did you look?
Try www.aa.com, or any of the normal online agencies.

just wanted to say that my dog and cat have just this minute been picked up by airpets... lovely guy came and got her let her take her toy and her food and a blanket and was great with her as she was rather nervous. The office called me after the pick up to make sure i was happy and then said they would call again when they got her to the farm to let us know they had settled in well. Fantastic service so far.. they really seem to know that people who go to this extent to keep their pets with them want them treated like they are at home!
ie spoilt!

£1200 for an 80lb dog and a cat - they collected them from Somerset , provided crates and boarded them 3 nights...
very expensive but i think they are going to do a good job
