The original bridge on that side lasted more than 20 years. It was replaced in Edmo because one of the key teeth (not the wisdom) needed a root canal. It was the new bridge that broke up.

I have to concur that dentistry in Edmonton is poor..im sure they make up work to get more money..i was told for example that i needed 2 crowns replacing as they were infected underneath..so because of the cost i decided to have one done and another the following year as i had maxed out my insurance. Needless to say they removed my crown filled and treated the tooth stub underneath and put a new crown on. Result 3 months later the crown broke and came off completely followed immediately by an abscess on the tooth stub. By this time i had moved to Calgary and had to have root canal done. He checked over my other crown which i had been told was decayed and infected underneath by the dentist in Edmonton..and he told me there was nothing wrong with it...im almost 95% sure there was nothing wrong with the other crown either before they messed around with it.

Most of the general public are Dentally ignorant..
If the Dentist has .......
1) A nice looking modern Office
2) A friendly Receptionist and Chair Side Assistant
3) A Good Chair side Manner
4) Doesn't cause pain when giving an injection
A patient will say he's Brilliant, marvellous, the best ever !!
Doesn't matter that the prep he's just done looks like it's been carved with a jackhammer, you wouldn't know if the margins are well defined. if the crown was prepped properly, is seated properly, has good contact points with abutting teeth... OR if you REALLY needed the work done or not !!
As I say, as long as he /she meets criteria 1 - 4 people think they are in good hands!!

Given the choice, I would get all the work done in the UK without any doubt. I've had work done in Canada that was shoddy/unnecessary/didn't last whereas I don't remember a single piece of work over 30 years in the UK that I could say that about. Canadian dentists are all about the money.

Thanks for all comments. I'm glad I'm not the only one who has had problems with Canadian dentistry; I had wondered if I'd just been peculiarly unlucky.
I did go to the UK. Got the remains of the old defective Canadian bridge removed and a new crown put on my wisdom tooth. My UK dentist could not make a denture for me in the time available, but I'll get that done next year. Because I only had a crown done, I probably paid more, including the air fare, than if I'd had the work done in Canada, but the important thing for me is that I have confidence in the quality of the work.

I've worked as a Dental Tech in Canada and in the U.K.
Some of the worst work I've seen in my 30 year career has been from Dentists in Canada..
Being objective I also saw some pretty shoddy workmanship in the U.K too, but having said that on the whole it has been worse than in Canada.
What I have discovered is the more arrogant the Dentist the worse their work is.
The main difference is they have more expensive, fancier offices because they can afford it because they charge so much.
Dental Plan = Licence to Drill
If there is a Dental Plan involved the majority make absolutely sure that it's used to the limit of the cycle.. They are salesman selling their products and services to the unsuspecting public..
OK.. Glad I got that off my chest...

I realise the way I worded my last comment made it sound like I was glad other people had dental problems! Didn't mean that, of course!

Add Ontario to that list - when we first arrived, the first dentist I saw wanted to crown every single molar and premolar in my mouth! I said no, so he just refilled them (I'm not sure that was even necessary). Most of those fillings have been replaced in the last 8 years because he did such a bad job on them (yes, I changed dentist).
