Default Decision Made, Feels Great.

Thanks every one for there views on an earlier thread I done.
Well we have decided to make the move back to the UK and I am actually feeling very relieved at the decision we have made. I moved here to have what I thought was a better life, but unfortunatley it hasn't worked out that way. What with finances being a problem, homesickness, a feeling of not fitting in and a couple of other things (too long winded to go into), we have made moves on getting back to good 'ol blighty. I have had quotes for shipping $8,900 for a 20ft container, then there is the estate agents fees, could be as much as $15,000 . Plus we are decorating at the moment, and the normal stresses of everyday living with 3 kids, life is just wonderful at the moment!.... NOT
I am wondering to myself everyday, what on earth made us do all of this in the first place. Were we stark raving mad, or just completely bonkers . Oh well hopefully our sanity will return one day. maybe a few drinks wil help the whole process.
I just can't wait to sell this place (anyone want to buy a house?) and get on the plane and head back to what I know as home, I feel the need to feel secure and comfortable again, and I'm sure that's what I'm going to feel when I land in the UK. I must say it's been a very valuable lesson, and an expensive one, to make me realise what I had in the UK wasn't so bad after all. The grass certainly wasn't greener for me.
Well my little moan has made me feel alot better!! I'm sure over the coming weeks there will be a few more!!!
Can I just say I'm not digging at NZ, or having a dig at others who have made immigration work for them. I am just needing to get a few things of my chest and think that this site is a good way to do that!!

All the best...I'm sure when you are back home and settled you will be able to look back and say "what an experience that was!!!!"

I expect it was hard to make that final decision - did your husband want to go back as much as you did?

Good luck with the busy times ahead!

Thanks scooby!
It was harder to make the decision to go home to the UK than it was to come here in the first palce., but easier to get home than it was to get here. Hope that makes sense!
Yes hubby wants to go as much as me, joint decision. xx

I think that makes sense!! All the time we have been here I havn't had more than 2 days in a row where I feel happy to be here! It is very hard but hubby wants to stay at least a year which is fair enough, and underneath I would feel that less than that would not have been a good try. Yet if hubby came home today and said "right we are going home" I would be overjoyed. I guess I don't want to be the one to make that decision!

xx

i know exactly what you are saying. It has been a major conversation piece for me and hubby, for the last few months. There was something happened , which was the final nail in the coffin for us. Although it was a joint decision in the fact that we are both happy to be going back it was actually the hubby who said those words first, which made me feel better cause it meant he isn't going back just because of me. I do hope it works out for you one way or another. Be happy xxx

Hi Fillyjane

Just wanted to say all the best for the move home. I know its costly etc but its done now...look forward not back.
We are moving back to Uk after 21/2yrs here in Oz and we are trying to sell our lovely house at present..stress or what !! I have put my flight back twice now and just hope that this " spring" buyers market will pick up.

My Aussie hubby was the one who suggested we return to the UK. Still that bit hasn't quite sunk in with many people....but I know he loves the UK for its good and bad points, same as me. I don't dislike Oz but at this time we both want to be home with family, friends etc plus other reasons.

Anyway just a huge good luck and keep us posted, and hope you get some buyers for the house soon.

Cheers
P

Good luck with your trip and plans to get back to UK.

Think there will be a few coming behind you.

Hubby was only saying last night that a Pom mate of his from work knew 10 UK families out of here a year ago......... there are 3 left now...... and his wife also wants to go home.

All the best

Hi Debs

How are you doing also?sorry I haven't emailed you with my "story" just been hectic week on and off and now we are due to busy weekend but here's a short version.

Married Aussie in UK, had daughter and moved to OZ when she was 5 mnths old( mad person!) Brought house, joined gym, mothers group, playgym, etc met lovely people, got on with life. 2 years later after countless run ins with my outlaws inc his sister just said I wanted to move far away..possibly another state but hubby suggested if we make this move lets do it somewhere that will make us truly happy...the UK ...back to family, friends, etc and my hubby is in IT and still very ambitious ( good for him) he used to work in London and enjoyed earning the UK pound. We are also trying for another baby so it would be good this time round( if it happens) to be near family etc.

If we moved state not only would hubby more than likely have to take a drop in his wages (all relevant to house prices etc I know to area you live in) but if we had then decided it was another pooh move we would be less likely to afford to move back to the UK. We both want things that don't exist here. We both want to travel more and not to just another beach. We both want our daughter to be involved with her extended family that do openly love her and want to be with her. I really could not face another year with all the family stuff that has gone on here.....it was disorientating enough coming to a new country let alone being alienated by my so called family here. Still it's all over now time to move forward.

I really like Australia and think anyone given an opportunity to try another lifestyle/country should try to take that chance and make it what they want. I know I will be coming back here for holidays to see people and hopefully we will get to see more of Oz too, until that time I am just very happy to be going home and can't wait.!!yippeeeeeeee

Hiya pants!
How did your open home go? Any interest?
We have been sorting out our place and I feel quite despondant at the moment as it feels like we are getting no-where fast. We've had agents round and I can't believe how much these people want to sell a house. We are trying "TradeMe" website first to see if it will sell before having to pay real estate agents. If not then we will have to part with some of our hard earned cash!
I was reading your post that you wrote ( replying to Debs) and your story sounds very similar to mine, ( especially the outlaw bit!!!). It's nice to know someone else is going through the same, that sounds awful! I don't mean I'm happy your going through the same, but just that it's nice not to feel like I'm not the only one!! I hope you get my drift!!!
Anyway hope all went well with the open house, let me know how you got on.

Cheers
Filly

Hello Pants (Scottish, Fillyjane etc.)

Thanks for detailing your story to us! Sounds like you gave it your best shot and not just legging it back or anything after a few months.

Family are so important when babies are around.. not just for babysitting duties either!

I wonder what I'm doing to mine bringing them all the way over here and them not being able to know their family properly. They say "oh there's web cams etc." but it's just not the same as physical contact.

I know that Fillyjane misses her family badly and when you've got good family it's always going to be hard work getting on with stuff so far away. I can't imagen it ever getting easier either.

BTW We are relocating to a cheaper place in NZ.. if only to see the summer because I'm damned if I'm having 3 winters in a row!!! NZ Winters are flipping hard work and me bones need thawing out!

Best of luck to all of you by the way... there's always a rainbow.. I'm sure of it!

Debsx
